Hello po mga kapwa tsikoteers, I have a friend who owns a '98 Toyota Hiace 2.0 GL Gas, everything's ok naman sana with the vehicle, kaya lang sobrang lakas sa gas, so now my friend is thinking about doing an engine swap from his 1R-Z engine in favor of a 2L-T turbodiesel engine. He wants to know if this will be a straightforward swap or are there going to be a major cutting/welding job to be involved. He's certain that the 2L engine will fit his van since this was the engine fitted to local diesel units. He already tried to sell the van, but all the prospective buyers were low-balling the price, taking advantage of high cost of gas. TIA.
what does your friend plan to do with the van after he has converted it to diesel? Sell or use it?
You might want to check the gear ratios for the transmission and final gear ratio if a diesel engine will work. If you just plan to swap just the engine, you will encounter problems with the gears.
Ghosthunter is correct; you may have a mismatch on the existing differential vs. the incoming 2L engine. Maximum engine rpm of the 2L is a lot lower than the 1RZ.
Maximum vehicle speed at top gear will be very low after the engine conversion.
