    If you do take the thermostat off. then make sure you close the bypass pipe or hose so that all the water will have to go through the radiator.
    I agree to your statement cocoy. If you don't follow the instructions clearly you will be suffering some problems about you thermostat. I have something to ask what type of thermostat are you using?
