I’ve read somewhere that by installing an open type cone filter you would lose low RPM torque but gain top end HP? Is there any truth to this? I’ve recently installed a simota open type filter and noticed that at low rpms the engine lost some “pull” but at the same time I get better fuel mileage. I then re installed the original airbox and filter after a month as most of my driving is around town. What I have known is that when you get more air in the engine it gets more power, but how come you also lose low end torque?

Open type filters should increase hp/torque in the entire rpm range.

Reasons why you might encounter power loss:
-intake is ingesting hot air from engine bay
-resonance in the intake tube/path between the filter and engine.
-"seat-of-pants" feel might be misleading because of increase engine noise (due to open filter)
