OBD scan lang ang maka rule out kung MAF ang sira. busted MAF results to bad fuel consumption, rich ang fuel pag busted. i guess, malayo sa MAF ang problema.

it's even hard to tell even with obd scanner, a bad maf can under or over report the airflow, under reporting maf can result in rich and over reporting maf can result in lean condition (less fuel) but there are lot of factors that can contribute with the rich and lean conditions and the analysis greatly depends on the tech's skill. BTW an over or under reporting maf will not flag a dtc (but diag mode 6 for that specific vehicle can help you determine if a particular sensor is failing).

though i dont know what OBD is, i've read and received advices from other sentra owners who experienced the same problem.. puro MAF talaga pinalitan nila.. common issue daw kasi talaga ng sentra ang sirain ang MAF.. exactly the same problem din kasi ang na-experience ko a couple of months ago bago ako nagpa-cleaning ng air intake related sensors ayun naayos naman for 2 months.. kaya baka kako yun ulit.. anyways, will try to have it cleaned again tapos pacheck ko rin yung mga nabanggit nyo dito.. salamat po ng marami.. god bless

first, let's go back to the definition of OBD. it is, on board diagnostics, with, as of this writing, is either OBD I or OBD II. if you say kabitan ng OBD you probably meant - connect to a code reader or a diagnostic scan tool. it is a very colloquial term most people who don't have technical training and basing their theory on hearsay. please refrain from advising people who need help if you are not trained and familiar with these systems. it makes you look like madame auring erfelo.

hope ok na ang car mo sir. if you are really convinced na maf ang sira ng sasakyan mo sir, you can have it repaired. just check first the continuity. pag meron, hindi defective yan. pag wala, try mo nyo muna spray ng electronic contact cleaner, baka may alikabok lang. i have a nissan sentra 99 ex before. tama po yang observation ng nissan owners, sirain ang MAF. wag na wag nyo pong hawakan yong dalawang wires sa loob ng maf. kung may putol na wire sa loob, ipahinang nyo lang, ok na yan. sana makatulong.

Hi,
Anybody here got the same problem aside from OniLord and have fixed the issue with more than cleaning? I think I have the same problem. Have cleaned the throttle body already but not much improvement (not sure how clean is clean). My sentra 1999 SS has been working fine until the Habagat struck MM. A few weeks after the Habagat, my car's idling suddenly started to drop when in traffic specially when the engine is loaded (AC is on and in shifted on Drive). The idling suddenly drops like its about to stall (actually it did on several occasion) by itself or when you press on the accelarator. This only happens when the engine is hot already and more so when the weather is hotter (at night, its not as bad although the headlamps are an added load) and when in traffic or at the stop light when the engine is left to idle by itself. But during cold start or nakarekta na, there is no problem.
The diagnosis of the repair shop I sent my car to is also MAF sensor although my guess its not. It seems to be a general conclusion on Sentras. The MAF sensor of this model I was told, is part of the throttle body and to replace the MAF, you need to replace the whole throttle body of which the original is quite expensive (unless someone here can say otherwise)! Have been reading other threads on the net and I would like to consider their suggestions first before seriously considering to replace the throttle body which are 1) check the idle up valve/sensor 2) coolant/engine temp sensor 3) electrical connections.
By replacing the throttle body, its like all-in-one suntok sa buwan solution. You replace several sensors at the same time without knowing which one is faulty. The big "IF" is "IF" replacing the throttle body, the problem still persists, what now? I am not sure and I dont believe that the MAF is the culprit. I am now leaning more on the electrical connections on the sensors and the sensors related to temperature. If its the MAF, why does this problem only persist when the engine is hot? But which is it?? Car electronics make repairing more miserable
I would like to seek opinions from different users here in the forum, to shortlist the possible problems based on their experience. Does not matter if you're right or wrong. Will try to relate to your experience and try it on my car so any comments are very much welcome!
