    particularly sa local scene natin, alin sa 4 ang mas madami mas affordable at mas readily-available ang parts for improvement of both engines (aside sa usual stuffs like unichip, nitro, IHE)

    4 lang yan na afford ko ang down...either livina 6mt or sx4 crossover or mazda 3 hatch or focus hatch lang choices ko...

    i could have chosen a jazz 1.5V, altis 1.6G MT or vios 1.5G (MT/ 4AT leather)...pero taas ng initial cashout..gusto ko lang ay nasa 100T below ang initial cash out... pare-pareho naman halos ang monthly nila for 5 years na below 20T/month.

    There are definitely more parts for the MZR and the Ford 1.8.

    The MR18DE is a great engine for economy, but the tuning and the conservative camshafts limit potential.

    The problem with tuning an MZR is it doesn't make that much power in the first place, and it's attached to an automatic transmission with long gearing.

    The best would be the Ford 1.8, with the manual. The automatic is okay. Not great, but okay. It's the same basic engine as the 2.0 gasser, only with a smaller bore, less displacement and less power. Speedlab has Cosworth parts that will fit the 1.8, but if you don't have the budget for the 2.0, I don't think you'll like how much they cost.

    Still... the 1.8 with some simple modifications should go well. It's torquier down low than the Civic 1.8, and the top end is decent. It pulls better than the Cruze, too... thanks to more low-down power and a tighter gearbox.

    Unichip, IHE, should be pretty quick. After that you're looking at Cosworth cams and the Cosworth intake manifold, which are expensive, but should make it pull like crazy. Lots of people are saying great things about that manifold. Beyond that, everything else is in the realm of crazy-expensive... to the point where it would make more sense to just buy the diesel Focus in the first place.
