April 28th, 2011 08:54 PM #1My Vanette overheated so im considering doing an engine change. The vanette engine ran hot and was a gas guzzler.
Is there anyone here that has any suggestions on what engine to use and what shops do good engine swaps.
Ill probably use the Vanette as a tow car to tow a car / boat trailer so ill be needing a diesel engine with some torque and power. Toyota or L300 engines good enough?
thanks in advance for the help Tsikot.

The reason why the Vanette overheats is the radiator is mounted under the vehicle and the fan does not move enough air through it.
It was never meant to be sold in tropical countries.
Nissan in-house solution was to replace the fan blade with one with more blades. Works well enough as long as the fan motor does not start to fail.
With this in mind, any engine you choose, you have to give more attention to it's cooling system. Have adequate ventilation through the radiator.

Some owners have installed auxilliary fans to combat overheating, too.
The modern engines that would most easily fit are the GA16DE and the SR20DE, but the wiring might be difficult, as the original engine is carbureted.

Given the TS plans to use the van as a tow vehicle, I would strongly recommend a different choice of vehicle for tow duty.
