Hi. I need some help diagnosing why my car's engine would suddenly stop while I try to rev it up from 0 rpm - 1k RPM. My car is a 1979 mitsubishi lambda.
The situation is, if I try to step on the pedal slowly (wether on neutral or gear position), at some point (probably before reaching the 1k RPM mark) the engine would suddenly stop. For me to be able to get the car moving, I should step the gas pedal past the point where the engine would stop (arnd 1.5k rpm... ang gastos sa gasolina ). Some of the things I tried were:
1. Check/Clean the high tension wires contact points.
2. Check/Adjust the timing/position of the distributor cap.
3. Check/adjusted carb air and gas intake.
4. Checked the gasoline pump.
I've tried asking different mechanics and had my car checked. Some of 'em just did what I already did. Some of 'em, without even checking my car would advise either an engine top overhaul or 'baba ng makina'. I did not agree with the engine overhaul idea since weekend driving lang naman ang gamit ko sa car. and When I bought it from a friend last year, kaka-overhaul lang din.
I could still use my car, and this problem doesn't manifest itself once the car is running. The problem is during parking and worst, traffic where the car only moves meter by meter. And its really a hassle to rev the engine higher than the usual then release the clutch enough to get the car moving slowly and not full release since my rpm is a higher than required, otherwise my car would jerk forward and sigurado, bangga!
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys could provide.

Does this also come out when you try revving when your gear is in neutral?
sir dyake04, sorry to say this but me kalumaan na nga ho yong ride nyo..
its faulty symptoms call for a quick & rational decision on your part to gid rid of the unit before (o nangayari na) more embarrassment & costly trouble comes your way..
dyake04: have you tried checking your fuel line??? baka pinapasok ng hangin. usually wala kang makikitang gas leak pero yung leak will take in air that might be causing yung sudden stops........

iyan lang ho mai-share ko..peace..
dude, i thnk the guy is asking for help ON HIS RIDE.
kahit pa ba 19-kopong kopong ang kotse, may pag asa parin maayos yan.
hmm... mukhang nabibitin sa fuel yan... try mo palitan yuel fuel mist nozzle sa carburator. minsan nagbabara yan.
or mas mabuti pa siguro kung ipa overhaul mo carburator mo... palit lahat ng paper gaskets, tapos clean all orifices, small holes, etc. with dry compressed air. nagbabara kasi minsan yung mga orifices sa loob ng carburator sa katagalan.
pwede din may hangin sa fuel line. tanggalin mo muna yung linya just before the fuel filter and drain out.
jim, dudepare, rsnald, from what you mentioned, I realized na baka nga fuel line. I remember before ko binaba yung gas tank to replace hoses and clean the tank, maayos pa naman yung pag-rev. After ko i-balik yung gas tank, dun na nag-umpisa. Sige sige, I'll check on the hoses. :D
Well that's for those mechanics whom I've met already, pasintabi po sa ibang mechanics sa forum.
I appreaciate all your responses, will get back to you and post my updates on this thread.
check fuel-filter kung meron baka madumi na.
check the iginition coil - baka luma na at na-reretard yung kuryente
check mo yung contact point nung distributor - either that or yung condenser/capacitor(?) ba yun?
I have a similar problem before with my carb sa nissan sunny ng erpat ko. Kinalas ko kasi yung carb niya (removed it from the manifold) to clean it totally. The problem occured because of an airleak in the gasket that separated the carb and the manifold.
What you should do is to remove the carb and the gasket at pahiran mo ng shellac (available ito sa autosupply store - its in a brown container tapos yung takip nya ay meron brush na nakapaloob) ang gasket, ang carb and the manifold contact. Then replace and screw the carb back. Thighten it properly...when the shellac dries up, the small air-leak holes would have sealed.
yo piyas. baka naka choke ang carb mo or your fuel filter can be cloged. check your fuel filter. if no change have your carb overhauled by a specialist. it will only cost p300 for labor sa mga carb specialist sa kamuning, qc for a carb overhaul. its possible that laspag na ang mga jets mo. so they might change it. we have our done with AnM along kamuning.
piyas, it is possible na the same. pero the case that i mentioned usually happens when the carb have been opened up na by non-professional technician (like in my case malakas na loob na diyer so i just simply removed it).
I later learned from the professional technician who solved my problem that the carb should be totally sealed when you put it back....that is why most gaskets have to be replaced when they are opened, kasi the integrity of the gaskets are compromised na when opened. He also pointed out the technique ng shellac to seal it up. Unlike "real" gasket sealers, the shellac is some sort of a low end class gasket sealer that will not react to direct contact to gasoline.
There are other possible air-leak in your system, lalo na kung hindi naman binuksan ang carb mo then one day bigla na lang naging ganyan. The original carb of the nissan sunny I was refering had a problem in the butter-fly pivots (hindi na pantay so nagka-air leak na rin). Vaccum chamber kasi ang carb down to the manifold..so when the engine runs, humihigop ito ng air and fuel mixture, the carb controls this mixture, so kung meron air leak that the carb could not control, nagiiba ang stoick (A/F mixture) to a point that it could be too lean that it won't combust (that is why the sinok - engine dies).
Ang first aid ko na mairecommend is spraying it with a carb cleaner muna (huwag mong tipirin) you might use up a half canister or even the whole canister. Spray it as recommended until the carb is so clean including its springs and linkages. That might help.
Kung hindi na solve and you're not really into diy stuff, bring it to a professional as recommended the shops in kamuning are known carb repair people.
enyong, the carburator people in kamias (Quezon City) street are known to be experts. Glenster (one of the board boss here) should be able to help you kung sino ang puede nila mairecommend.
kasi kung ako kayo, i'll DIY it para maiayos nyo iyan ng ayos at the same time learn a few tricks.
