Hey guys, We am considering building a 4x4 offroad racer based on the Daihatsu Feroza Platform. Our team would like to compete in the 4cylinder category. Would anybody know up to how much we can rebore the 1.6L Feroza to increase engine displacement? Could we go upto 2.4L?
Is there any machine shop catering to this kind of service? Is there a resident expert here in tsikot who knows the answer?

Secondly we would also like to install either a turbo charger or a supercharger. Since the stock Feroza is not designed for turbo charging?
How much is the maximum boost that can be considered safe? We would appreciate if you can recommend a shop specializing in turbocharging as well.

Thirdly our target is to increase the HP of the stock Feroza from 86HP to 150HP by doing both rebore and turbo charging. Is this a realistic target or a shot into the moon?

Maraming pong salamat sa mga experts ng tsikot.

Not an expert on the Feroza but what kind of off road racing will you be doing? If you bore out an engine from 1.6L to 2.4L you will likely lessen the strength of your block for boost of a turbo or supercharger. Depending on the kind of racing you'll do a turbo may not be a good idea as compared to a supercharger. Why not just swap out the engine to something like a 22R from a Toyota? It will give you the displacement you want with the power and keep you normally aspirated which is better off road. But for the same size truck I'd rather use a Suzuki Samurai for off road use with the solid axle up front less likely to break compared to the IFS of the Feroza.

Thank you for the reply redorange. The engine swap to a 22R is a good alternative, Is the 22R still a 4 cyclinder engine? How hard is it to swap engines? Can I still get more power by supercharging it? How about the transmission, do we have to change it too? We would like to join 2 classes of races, the 4 cylinder class and the open class that is why we want the power of a V6 or a V8 engine. Hehehe btw our group is FerozaClubPh so you would understand why we dont want to use another platform. The plan is too convert the axles of the Feroza to either a TLC or Dana44 front 60 rear or Patrol with coil springs and a R&P of 5.29. We need tire diameters of at least 35" or preferably 38". We have identified a supplier for the solid axle swap, what we have not decided yet is the 4cylinder engine to use as we are in the quandary to swap another 4 cylinder engine or rebore the existing Feroza engine.

You need the bigger engine. Even with turbocharging, you're not going to get as much power (and more importantly, torque) as the big boys with their V8s, and clutch longevity will be compromised.

Boring out won't gain you anything. Maybe 0.05 to 0.1 liters. Not from 1.6 to 2.4. There are stroker kits available for other engines that raise displacement by 0.4 to 0.5 liters, but I don't think you'll find one for the Feroza.

Get a bigger powerplant. Whatever 2.0 or 2.5 liter Toyota engine that will fit (I suppose you'd go Toyota since it's still in the spirit of staying OEM?). Turbo it if you want to. But the stock 1.6 probably just won't do.

as for me reboring ang engine is just a solution sa engine na walang available na piston but it will not make the engine stronger.. proper tuning will make the difference
