need advice lang po....yung radiator ko always needs overhauling every 2 to 3 months....alam ko na pag kelangan....the engine temperature rises to 3/4ths pag may bara na yung rad....ang bara niya is latak and not kalawang...the problem ko is nagpalit na ko ng rad (evercool) ganun pa din ang situation...by the way, i only put minimal or no coolant(advice sa kin ng naglilinis ng rad)....what should i do?thanks

sir, i think the coolant is there for a reason. para hindi magboil kagad yung water regulation sa engine. also try putting distilled water para wala masyado corrotions na mangyari sa radiator mo. kalokohan yung 2-3 months ka overhaul ng rad...

i think, the best is dalin mo kay speedyfix para diagnose ng mabuti. sobrang ok sila gumawa. recommended ng mga tsikoteers.

I think may langis na humahalo sa radiator mo. Kulay putik ba? You may have a warped cylinder head gasket.

mukhang sabog ata yung nag lilinis na yun ha! lolz! man, pag walang Coolant, mas lalong kakalawangin ang Cooling System (specially pag metal type pa ang Radiator, and also pag Cast Iron ang Block) but in your case, Aluminum Block ang makina ng Civic mo, but having only Water on your cooling system wont really protect your engine from over heating. coz Water has a lower Boiling Point.

anywayz, before doing anything else.. make sure na may Thermostat ang makina mo. and pag wala.. yun ang problema ng erratic temperature ng kotse mo. and also, make sure that they purge all of the air out of the Cooling System.

    aite, peace.

"chemical coolants" only destroy your radiator, water itself is a natural coolant... i've experienced this several times na yung radiator ko eh nasira using 100% coolant and even at 50/50 coolant-water ratio still my radiator's solder points get corroded...,i have a kia besta before, madalas sumabog or magkatulo radiator kaya madalas tapon lang yung coolant ko mahal pa naman.. pag binuksan mo yung radiator eh puro corroded na yung loob.. sabi nung nag ooverhaul ganun daw talaga effect ng coolant, kaya ayun after 3rd repair plain water na lang gamit ko. napansin ko mas ok ginamit ko pa yung van ng mga 2years hanggang sa ibenta ko hindi na nagloloko radiator ko... kya sa iba kong rides plain water na lang talaga... still the best coolant to your car is water specifically yung distilled para mas malinis...kahit dun sa coolant resevoir water lang din nilalagay ko...

if meron latak yung tubig ng rad mo possible may humahalong langis dyan coming from the engine.. some cars especially A/T transmission have cooling tubes going to the lower portion of the radiator, this serves as the ATF cooler for the transmission... kung wala naman eh possible sa engine mo galing yun latak... yung oil when mixed with water under high temp then passes thru your water pump blades, magkakaron talaga ng parang latak (parang chocolate milk shake na napanis...)

coolant is anti rust and acts as a lubricant to all of the components like the waterpump etc.

i don't know how people can think it is not good for the cooling system when all cars come standard with it.

+ 1000 kay sir speedyfix. sana lahat ng radiator ng sasakyan ay sira dahil almost every car are using coolant sa radiator nila. i think we should also consider the quality and the wear and tear of the car's radiator not the coolant itself that should be blamed of. coolant is there to protect not to destroy.. just my 2 centavo.. peace

that's right sir... most likely a car using pure coolant like prestone and other brands will definitely have shorter radiator life compared to others using pure distilled water only... alam ko din kasi madalas din masira radiator ko nung gumagamit pa ako ng coolant.. yan din sabi ng nag overhaul sa akin, lahat daw ng ginagawa nya radiator eh grabe na ang corrosion caused by coolant..

coolants are recommended for countries that have season of extreme low temperatures (like japan, korea) wherein coolant also serves as anti freeze..

my first ride is a besta van, since i know this van is prone to overheating , i used 100% coolant kasi sabi sa ads eh mas magaling kesa tubig, after 2years my radiator needs a complete overhaul, again i refilled with 100% coolant, same thing happened... i also noticed na yung radiator ko eh may formation ng latak... that is when i decided to use back to basics 100% distilled water.. ayun for the next 3 years na ginamit until i benta ko na yung van ko eh walang reklamo yung radiator...

my 2nd ride is a kia carnival, same din, i immediately removed yung coolant and changed to distilled water... may formation na din ng latak before i changed.. since na pinalitan ko ng distilled wala na yung latak..

we also bought a 2nd hand L300 exceed (local) naka coolant din napansin ko pa nga pag medyo high speed say 100kph eh medyo tumataas ang temp to 1/2, same manifestations daming latak sa loob ng coolant reservoir, nilinis ko agad then change to 100% distilled water.. as of now walang overheating.. kahit 120kph still 1/4 lang ang temp

Coolant must be dilluted to the proper ratio recommended by the car manufacturer. It may be anywhere from 70/30 to 50/50. Most common is 50/50. It is NOT to be used pure! Please read the instructions on the coolant bottle.

There is a premixed coolant. This is used pure as it has already been diluted in the factory.

Coolant contains anti-rust properties and lubricates your water pump. It also increases the boiling point of water.

If you dont want to use coolant, please use distilled water. Dont use mineral, deepwell or tap water.

There is no such thing as 'UNIVERSAL COOLANT'. Read your owners manual as to what type of coolant it recommends for your car. Many are attracted to 'change every five years type of coolants' but beware they may have different composition that can ruin your cooling system.

Anyway I am still researching, hanap din kasi ako ng reliable but low cost coolant for my cars.

i just use the oem or house brand of honda to save me the trouble of mixing the darn thing. it costs P250/liter so it's not such a bad buy naman considering i do top-ups on my reservoir rarely or far in between

i use caltex's long life coolant. 1 liter mixed with 4 liters of water. kulay red pa, suspiciously like that of Toyota's coolant (or was it Mitsu. i forget).

prestone yellow kasi forms gels pag matagal na. contains silicates too, so nagbubuo buo over time.

oh, and i agree with everyone else's comments about your cylinder head. may crack yan, kaya nacocontaminate yung water sa radiator mo. water+oil+heat = bad news.

sir, hindi ata langis yon...greyish yung kulay ng latak and nung binuksan yung radiator ko ang nakita namin is puro puti na latak...similar sa latak sa mga gripo na luma sa banyo...

+1 dito.. as much as possible try using distilled water rather than tap water kasi dami impurities ng tap water.

if laging may latak you might need to use the lavramon machine.

Lavramon parang Dialysis ng cooling system... You must remove your Termostat before doing a Lavramon...

Regarding naman sa coolant or no coolant sa akin same lang as long as you use distilled water... All our cars don't use coolant and so far so good... Before sa corona ko I use coolant plus distilled water 50/50 ratio... mga 1 year lang life span ng Radiator ko... BTW I use evercool radiator... but when replaced with distilled lang tumagal radiator ko for 3 years until na benta ko... Pero tama sila coolant lubricate your water pump... kasi nasira water pump ko nung nag distilled lang ako... hehehe... pero after napalitan ok na...
