Hello guys I am just wondering why the oil level in my van, a liteace with a 2ct engine is just below the "L" marker. There is no visible leak.

We have just changed oil about a month ago. And used about 5 cans of Top-1 motor oil.

Any suggestions why my oil level became this low?

Does it blow whitish or bluish smoke? If there are no leaks visible on the outside, then your engine is drinking oil.

The proper way to measure oil is first thing in the morning before you start the vehicle, when all the oil is settled in the pan. If the engine is running, the oil will naturally read low because it's circulating.

Thanks for the reply Sir. Actually the engine is not running when I tried to measure the oil level. As for the smoke, yes there is a bluish smoke coming out from the pipes.

If my van is "drinking" oil, what should I do? Does it mean my van needs to be calibrated?

how about your previous oil change? before your Top 1 oil? still the same bad oil consumption?

the problem with this better priced syn oil is that it has no ratings labeled.

and also when does this smoke comes out?

after stoping from a long run?

If my memory serves me right, the oil level is just fine before we changed the engine oil.

The bluish smoke appears when I press the accelerator when the engine is idle or running.

Better change oils first and then see what happens.

The problem with some old engines is that some of the seals can swell when you use mineral oil. If you switch to synthetic, those seals shrink back, leading to the oil consumption you're seeing.

But if it's just right below the "L" marker after one month, (how many kilometers is that?) then your consumption isn't very excessive, I think...

I think it's best if you change back to mineral oil or a thicker synthetic for the meantime. Get something like Shell Helix 15w40, to be sure, or 20w50, then observe. If the smoke goes away after a while, all's well and good. If it keeps smoking and drinking oil, you might want to look at an overhaul.

yep, better change it to Shell Helix. the 15w40 costs 187.00 per liter/ 748.00 per 4 liters.

that Top 1 oil costs 250 per liter right? I see them on racing car display on malls. nakaka enganyo peru walang ratings nga...

btw, hows your panel board? any warning orange or red lights? below L marker should have given you the oil light already...

if it will come to overhaul, look for alwayz_yummy. expert siya sa liteaces. a surplus 2ct btw is more or less 18k.

^^^ AFAIK, a low oil level will not result in a warning light.

Generally, the oil warning light pertains to lack of oil pressure. Umiilaw lang yun pag may tama yung oil pump. I've had several cases na of low oil levels in both my Sentra and Accord, but the idiot light never lit in my dash.

Ilan ba talaga ang engine oil capacity nito? Baka mamya kulang lang talaga yung nilagay nung gumawa sa van namin???

it will light up for toyo liteaces. orange lamp for low level. red for low pressure. most likely, low level oil lamp lights up when reving high when oil mark is below half.

4.5 liters including oil filter. you should be there when they work with it. but if the smoke you have is really bluish and smoke burns your eyes, it's probably engine problem.(though some burned syn oil doesn't smell or colorize much at all)

Yep I was there when they poured the engine oil.

I was just thinking that the engine might need more than 5 Liters of oil.

If you pour in more than the manual recommends, the extra oil will just get burned off in the engine until the oil level returns to "F" or "H" on the dipstick.

I've just poured another can of oil. When I measured it again, the oil level is just above the "L" marker. The oil might be not be completely settled yet. Will try again at about 8:00 pm

present! top ovberhaul lang po nangyari sa akin.. see my sig..

bent head gasket... sa akin kaya overheating lalo na on power-drives, now ok na... just finished re-grounding-->kaya pala may mis-starts lite ko!sinamahan pa ng sliding a/t....pero awa ng dyos, di pa ko nakaranas ng ganyan....eto, can push 80kph na.. but still under observation...

hay, a/c & cooler box, tail gate garnish at power curtain nalang ang di ko pa narerestore..

kung malaki ang damage mo, 20-30thou na(maaring may machine works ka-->mga di mo maiiwasan i-pamachine works kahit bumili ka ng surplus 2c-t engine: valve clearance, seating, lapping...and head check for cracks and bents.)

i think mas ok pa mag-change engine ka nalang-->3c-turbo! tapos pabuka mo lang yung top(cylinder head) para masilip mo kung may palitin... ang magagastos mo sa overhaul ng 2c-t, di sulit, kaya palit 3c-t mo nalang.. and dont forget to change the timing belt..its a no.1 priority lalo na kung bibili ka ng surplus makina na may t-belts......

sakit ng 2c-t ay oil seals, kadami...di ko pa sure kung may valve adjuster ang 3c-t.. kc ang 2c-t wala kaya sa machine shop mo lang pwede pa-clearance...

naranasan ko na onetime yung yellow oil-pressure warning--nung sa baguio ako, inclined->kulang pala ang oil!

I have a good news guys.

My mom just called up and informed me that she called a mechanic who was able to determine that the oil filter is broken. The oil filter that is installed on our car is "Osaka" brand which he said is a fake. Which resulted to the oil gradually leaking out.

Nakahinga rin ako ng malalim ^_^

A fake oil filter cause an L in the oil level? Hmmm... Do you have the right dipstick for that engine model?

your smoke is still not explained... that's a sign something is not right.

Up ko lang 'tong thread para di na ako gumawa.

Ganito din nangyari sa akin, mga 2000km pa lang tinakbo since oil change, tapos kanina umaga nasa L na yung oil. Actually napapansin ko na since oil change na bumababa gradually yung oil level. I will yet check the smoke, but my plan in case ok naman yung smoke, is to add oil na lang to increase the oil level.

Is this ok, or do I need a complete oil change? If ok, can I use a different oil brand, or dapat pareho?

Also, related kaya to sa biglang paglamig ng panahon?
