October 7th, 2010 11:10 PM #1i have a cast iron block that i wanted to to get honed to expose virgin surface for new rings to wear on.
no overbore needed. i'm pretty sure that there is no ridge formation on the upper end of the block.
does anybody have an idea by how much increase in diameter does a hone do? - just a hone to break the glaze. just a ballpark figure will do....

October 8th, 2010 01:12 PM #2Well I don't know the exact figures, but from experience you may be able to fit the next oversize ring after honing with some adjustments.

October 8th, 2010 03:15 PM #4that's a lot... 0.2 mm. i'm thinking somewhere in the region of 0.01 mm.
piston to wall gap should be 0.02 up to 0.04 mm as per oe specs. if the hone will make the diameter larger by 0.2mm, then its a problem
