Yesterday, everything was working just fine. The CEL switches off in 5 seconds or less, but after raining today, the CEL turns off 5 minutes after.

BTW, my car is parked outside so it was drenched in the rain...

This also happened to me a month ago when I washed my car, but after a day or two, it went back to normal.

Can anyone explain why this happen? TIA...

it would help if d car make and model would be indicated...

anyway, it is a wiring problem. may nabasang wire or sensor. check under d hood for watermarks that would tell kung san nababasa. you can also have the ecu scanned

    Ooops.. I haven't mentioned my ride, sorry. It's a 95 Civic ESi.

Sir I had popped the hood up to check for watermarks, so far I have seen none naman.. Where should I check specifically? Pardon my ignorance because I'm just a new (secondhand..) car owner..

Ok.. thanks for the advice! I was just dumbfounded when the CEL takes 5 minutes to switch off just because of the rain. Dati naman kasi 5 seconds lang, it's already gone..

Could it be that the engine is still cold?

A cold engine will not throw a CEL warning. It's probably a sensor that has gone "bad" from age.

Just go to a competent auto-shop to have it diagnosed and fixed.

I would suggest SPEEDYFIX (San Juan) or SPEEDLAB (Quezon Ave) as places to go.

replacing all the few electrolytic capacitors on the ECU might just fix your problem as some other owners experienced

but capacitor problem does not explain what appears to be temperature dependent symptom in your case ... so this is just a try-if-it-works approach and it won't hurt your wallet

CEL doesn't turn off in a few seconds.. Help please..!!
