Hello po mga experts. Wanted to ask about car radiator cooling fan (pls correct me if im wrong).
gawain ko magopen ng hood ng car when I get home para mas madaling lumamig. When I turn off the engine and say for about 2-3 minutes pag switch ko to ACC, may naririnig akong tumutunog sa may hood. When I checked it out, nakita ko umaandar ung cooling fan. Pinabayaan ko last night for about 10 mins para mas mabilis lumamig. Is this advisable? Do you do this also sa car nyo?
TIA.

10 mins? parang masyadong matagal pre... mapapadali naman ang battery life mo nyan... check your cooling system, diba nagkukulang ang coolant mo?
na experience ko kasi yan before. after ko gamitin ang oto ko naiiwang buhay ang rad fan. which would last up to 2 mins kung maikli lang tinakbo and lasts longer naman pag medyo mahaba ang byinahe ko. i checked my coolant and refilled it and found out na bawas siya. i remembered na nagpalit nga pala ko ng radiator hose. and apparently after sya palitan hindi pinacirculate ng mabuti ung tubig. basta pinuno lang ang radiator and sinara na ang cap. pag ganito maaring may maiwang hangin sa loob ng cooling system.
so what i did was to cool down the engine first then opened the rad cap refilled it to full then started the engine. i waited until the temperature reached normal and the thermostat to open. pag open nung thermostat bumaba level ng coolant sa i filled it up again. hinintay ko lang hanggang sa tuwing magbukas ang thermostat hindi signficant ang pagbaba ng coolant level. after nun ok na di na naiiwang naka on rad fan ko. hope this helps.

April 17th, 2009 07:14 PM #3Chief, ako naman ang practice ko is before ko i-shut off yung engine, pinapakiramdaman ko muna yung fan kung umaandar pa, if umaandar pa wait ko muna 'til it shuts off para at least i'm sure that the water temp within the engine is already cool, sometimes wait ko pa nga isang cycle, (yun bang hintayin ko muna umandar uli hanggang sa mag shut-off) para sure cool talaga engine lalo na kapag galing sa malayo. These steps didnt gave me situations like yours. You can try chief . Thanks!

there's really no effect on what you guys are doing in regards to temperature.
engine temp stabilize once it's on & running, that's called operating temparature. as long as the temp is within the window of operating temp, it's fine.
as what the TS stated, there's no significant effect sa procedure nya since only the water inside the radiator would cool down a bit, while the water in the engine still remain the same cause it's not circulating.
opening the hood after shutting off the engine would help to speed up cool down since air can circulate more & warm air can go out faster.

April 18th, 2009 10:09 AM #5If your cooling system is fine, excessive warm-up (or warm-down) periods are unnecessary. Sayang lang gasolina.

thanks po sa mga nagreply.. *jvnj - actually pareho tayo. i noticed kapag i-shut off ko ung engine then put it back to ACC, umaandar po ung fan. Hinayaan ko kahapon then after mga 5 minutes nag off kusa ung fan. habang umaandar ung fan (off na po ung engine) naka open din po ung hood. Kapag umaandar po ba ung fan with the engine off gumagamit pa din ba sya ng coolant?

Anyway with your question, no hindi po sya gumagamit ng coolant if the engine is OFF, better cool down while the engine is running, at least with this practice, you're sure that you are cooling the engine as a whole not only the water inside the radiator.
Sa question po ni sir Tepperz, actually wala naman po masisira if you will immediately shut-off the engine, but doing those practice will prolong the engine life. Why? actually madami po benefits, like reduced oil burning, limiting or minimizing the engine metal parts contraction, and etc. Minsan nga po natanong ko sa sarili ko, why does (mostly) turbo charged engine have turbo timer (although wala po turbo oto ko he he!)? it is because since turbo engine operates on a higher temp, needs to cool down to preserve or protect its internal parts.

April 23rd, 2009 09:23 AM #10Chief, sorry been busy. Anyway, havent clocked the time during cool down period, basta ang mino monitor ko lang is the radiator fan, if it is still -on, di ko muna pinapatay and wait till it shuts off. Kung minsan naman kapag long distant drive, wait ko muna isang cycle (kung baga, wait for the fan to turn-on till it shuts off) then taska ko pinapatay. Yes tama ibang guru's medyo waste of energy pero had my benefits naman. Thanks chief!
planning to keep it for 15yrs just done 10,000 km already replaced the transfer case fluid w/...
