Hi, I would personnally go for the overhaul. Buying a second hand engine would be easy coz you can immediately install it. But there are many things to consider in buying a second hand engine:
I think, your mechanic wasn't able to repair the exact cause or problem of your engine, or, he did not carefully followed the correct steps in doing the overhaul. I would suggest that you bring your car to a reputable shop and have it diagnosed systematically to clearly identify the problem. Dont lose hope.
- You need to change your engine number as indicated in your registration. This includes Crame or Police clearance. Additional costs involved.
- You are not so sure if the engine you will buy will lasts or performs in tiptop condition. You gotta be sure of the engine's history or how the owner uses it.
- You may want to consider why did the owner wants to sells his engine, does it give him a headache? etc.
- You also need to perform basic maintenance (ex. change oil, tune up, etc.) on the engine before you use it.
Thanks![]()
