Had a chat with mr. Gil of Jaisi auto parts. He told me that according to a Japanese Enginneer of Nissan small oil filters are better than the big ones (OEM of course) . This is because of their ability to circulate oil faster than the bigger ones. What do you think?

Di ba mas malaking filter mas malaki din capacity nya magipon ng dumi? It might be true, because smaller filters tend to distribute quicker which has lesser filaments inside.

Ano nga ba mas maganda, malaki o maliit?

i think mas maganda yung malaki, come to think of it, di ba pag mas malaki ang filter syempre mas nasasala ang husto yung dumi. pero kung ang OEM e maliit, that would not be a problem, kasi manufacturer's specs naman kaya ok lang yun.

for me kung ano yung oem ang better. Kasi pansin ko pag malaki matagal mamatay ang ilaw sa oil sa umaga, meaning matagal ding magcirculate ang oil. Pag maliit naman baka madaling mag clogged ng dumi, hindi pa umabot ng oil change interval... :bald:

di pa naman ako nag change (bukas pa). nasa akin pa yon filter, may option pa akong magpalit. yun specs ng small filter (OEM ito)gamit sa 6 cyclinder gas engine ng nissan and alos some diesel engine too. sabi nya
kung katulad natin ng mahilig mag maintain ng ride this is better, pero kung matagal ang interval magpalit ng oil kahit malaki ang filter mababara din. from what i know may by-pass valve ang mga OEM filter, this is to protect the engine in the event na mag clogged ang filter.

yup me bypass valve nga ang oem oil filter, and some engine's lube systems ata. Pero pag sa bypass valve na nagdaan ang oil, it means unfiltered oil ang nagcicirculate sa engine mo.
Eh kung nag clogged yung maliit na filter a thousand kilometers before your regular oil change interval?

yung sa isuzu OEM filter wala nitong by-pass valve (afaik). sinubok ko magbukas ng isa when I changed oil, alang valve mechanism or by-pass connection.
regarding w/c size is better, bigger gives your more filter surface surface area, so in terms of filter life, mas matagal bago ma-clog ang malaki. Kung maliit naman, mas mabilis nga oil circulation non. as to which is better, aba ewan :D nasubok ko na rin gumamit ng mas malaking oil filter. ala namang noticeable difference. siguro sa long term use mo lang mapapansin. pero, one thing for sure, madadagdagan ng konti yung oil requirement mo for the the oil change to make up for the additional volume of your larger oil filter.

yup, you have a point there, pero how will I know clogged na ang filter? TD42 engine have 2 oil filters. gaano kalayo ba ang Marilao sa Marikina ? :D

Salamat sa mga replies ninyo. Lalo ako nalito :D. At least may pag-iisipan ako mamya bago ako matulog. BIG=bigger filtering area, SMALL=faster circulation.

Think the small filter is common with gas engines while big filters for diesels due to more engine soot, dirt inherent in diesels.

I'd use the oem size in any diesel engine since some are 2-stage filters- a full flow and bypass filter(much finer filter). Haven't heard of a bypass filter in common gas engines.

The OEM TD42 filter is huge to increase filtration area. And there are two of them to increase the said area even further.

The increased speed of circulation would be useless if your filter got clogged by crud halfway before the next oil change.

Just don't race your engine on cold mornings and you would not have problems with circulation speed.

dont know with oil, but for fuel filter, i have a better experience with big filter than small one as it can easily clogged up.

stick to OEM filters and change oil every 5K kms..

Ok, I agreed OEM big filter is better. Guess I have to change mine on the 2,500km mark. But, I've notice that when this small filter was install the engine fired up well during start-up. May protector daw ang TD42 kinda like an engine shut off mechanism when oil level goes down to a dangerous level. Everytime I had my oil changed nag stop ang engine after about 10 seconds. This time hindi siya nag stop.

revoGSX:::The maunufacturers are now leaning towards smaller oil filter. maybe it's the cost ;)

    Bakit yun kay Boybi maliit...

    ...yun oil filter niya.

Which is better, big or small oil filter?
