    viscocity and price.

before, i'm hard core full-syn. but, with the current high prices of oil products, i use semi-syn.

Current Price of Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 Semi-Synthetic 4 Liters is P1,100. kakachange lang last tuesday...

    we use:
    Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 Semi-Synthetic for Toyota 3C-TD
    TOP 1 15W-40 Fully-Synthetic for Mitsubishi 4D56-TDI

One oil manufacturer claims that "some people in the industry use multi-viscosity as if it means the same thing as multigrade. An oil cannot be multi-viscosity, but it can be multigrade by meeting the viscosity requirements for SAE 30, 40, 50 or 60 and one of the sub-zero "W" viscosity requirements. At one time, some oil companies labeled oils SAE 10W, 20W30—as if the oil could be 10W and 20W at the same time. This is impossible because 10W is measured at -20 degrees C and 20W is measured at -10 degrees C, which eliminates the multi-viscosity theory."
When you see 10W-30 on a quart of oil, it means that it acts like 10 weight oil when it is cold (the "W" means winter, say -10^C), but acts like 30 weight oil when hot (100^C). This is not to say that it is actually thicker when it is hot. Hot 30 weight oil is thinner than cold 10 weight oil. Even so, it still helps provide the benefits of both types of oil depending on its temperature. So 0W-30 oil acts like 0 weight oil when cold, but maintains a 30 weight viscosity when hot.
unless your engine is in bad condition, use a light weight oil. so friction won't be too hard on your engine at the coldstart... use heavy oil and it would cause low RPM on early morning start-up.

Read the Labels na lang to make sure your vehicles fit the category...

guys, tanong lng, yung suki ko kasing mekaniko advised me to just use shell helix super (yellow), my car's 12 yrs old. masama na daw kasi kung gagamit pa ko ng helix plus or ultra. should we really consider the age of the engine in considering whether to use synthetic or mineral? i use helix, yung super kasi(yellow) mineral lng sya.
