November 5th, 2005 10:57 PM #44The problem dito sa atin we pay taxes then what? They should always remember that the tax payer are the one feeding the masa not the stupid government officials.

In most countries, the professionals and self-employed entrepreuners are considered as hard to tax groups. We already have the highest income tax rate in Southeast Asia yet we have the one of the lowest percentage of tax revenue to gross domestic product (tax effort). We have one of the lowest cost of tax collection yet because of we have one of the lowest paid revenue agents. Still Congress have not made any significant effort to increase the salaries of BIR and Customs employees (an examiner who has the power to close down a multibillion companies employing thousands of employees earns around P 12 to 20 thousand pesos).
Most other countries have given political and fiscal autonomies to their revenue collecting agencies but our remain mere low level bureaus and are prone to political pressures. Mga small and medium self employed ba? Bakit maraming negosyante and gustong mag politiko at vice versa?
Nagtatanong lang naman.
