tama si niky
if you want people to buy more new cars, you have to disincentivize ownership of used cars
increase the cost of ownership of used cars -- like raise registration renewal fee on cars more than 10 yrs old
the older the car, the more expensive the renewal fee
or outright ban cars more than 10 years old
that would force old cars off the road and into scrap yards and into smelting plants
strict enforcement of roadworthiness (equivalent to US DOT standards)
that would effectively ban all OTJs/PUJs/ethnic AUVs
BUT -- it will be terribly unpopular
noone in govt has the guts to propose anything like thatLast edited by uls; August 16th, 2010 at 10:58 AM.

August 16th, 2010 12:39 PM #23Of course nobody would have the guts to do that. We live in a democracy! You are free to do anything! You can pitch up a tent in somebody's land and claim it as your own! You can swerve any way you want in the roads! You can cross the street any time you want, screw traffic lights! You can smoke anywhere you want! You can play your music as loud as you want! You can sing like a goat with a videoke as loud as you want!
Screw everybody else! I do what I want to do!

Yeah. Right.

kaya nga
so whoever has a vision of seeing only late model cars on Phil. roads, no ethnic crap like PUJs, OTJs, AUVs, tricycles, kuligligs, karitons, pedicabs...
dream on
there's a huge number of people who will rise up to oppose any proposal that will seek to ban old cars and crap on wheels
the govt is not powerful enough to enforce something like that
gulo yan
---
the American Chamber of Commerce is trying to influence the Phil. govt to create more profitable conditions for Ford here
but the Phil. govt can only go so far before coming into conflict with the interests of other business groups (like CBU importers, used car importers)
AmCham can't have it all
what does AmCham want?
a ban on all CBU imports?
so the only new cars you can buy here are those assembled by Ford and other CAMPI members?
not gonna happen

wag naman ban more than 10 yr old car. if maintained properly, SUVs can last more than 20 yrs. kasi halos hindi nasisira ang pang-ilalim. own two or three of these and you will have financial independence for a lifetime as far as transporation is concerned.
people here in the Phils. will buy more brand new cars dahil na din sa present road condition here. sa ika 2nd year pa lang ng brand new car, pati pintura mo halos faded na hitsura and of course, sa laspag na pagkakagamit dahil na din sa driving habits natin lahat.
add to that the sedentary lifestyle of middle class na kain dito kain duon, hence lumalaki ang katawan, and cars will never be smaller. and that's why we have corollas, cruzes, lancers the size of the accord ten years ago. that also explains why our roads today are too congested. ang lalaki ng mga sasakyan, even passenger jeepneys today are biggg!

August 16th, 2010 04:11 PM #27RP must choose or prioritize the development/ upgrading of basic infrastructures across the country such as better roads, post harvest facilities, marketing channels, ro-ro facilities and the likes above anything else.
Huli na tayo sa technology ng car manufacturing, pagtiisan na lang muna natin ang mga bulok na mga gawang hapon, koreano at merkano... at isama pa natin ang mga european cars or heavy equipments, whether 2nd hand, cbu or locally made. Bulok, syempre dahil wala tayo e.
Yan ang mas relevant sa pag-unlad na dapat mas pagtuunan ng pansin o prayoridad ng gobyerno. Malay natin, baka in the process umusbong ang mas angkop na Pinoy Auto industry mula dito.

I have a couple of brothers who would claim a totally different opinion on SUVs from you about SUVs lasting 20 years.
The SUVs in question is a Ford Expedition and a 2nd gen Honda CRV.
Repairs are getting more frequent and more expensive parts are needing replacement.

Blame the ever increasing SUVs, AUVs, VANs that are being used by a single passenger to get around the city. It is the mistaken opinion that SUVs and similar are more safer and spacious than their sedan counterparts.
Also that inner wanting from the vehicle owner to drive around in a vehicle that have the interior space of their home living rooms to have space enough to drive around their entire extended families even if that only happens once a year.Last edited by ghosthunter; August 16th, 2010 at 04:37 PM.
