Aside from securing your money with a mini vault, isang concern din kung saan mo itatago ung vault. Haha. Naisip ko magpagawa ng wooden cabinet na nakalagay (fixed) ung vault somewhere inside pero hidden or naka lock. Mahirapan man lang ung kukuha bitbitin nya ung buong cabinet haha.

My childhood playmate showed me where the vault of her parents are. It's in the room on the floor. You can lift the flooring and it's covered by a carpet ata.

I once had 40k sa room ko. Thing is, i am renting an apartment (bahay up/down). Unlike you guys na nasa bahay at lupa na sarili nyo. Doesnt matter kung maliit yan for others or hindi, pero sakin napaka laki na nyan.

For example, I want a new dSLR. Di ko naman ikakahirap, so I buy one. Then, I realize I want nice lenses. Again, I can afford the lenses so I buy them.

Then, a month after, I realize I want to try biking. Again, di ko ikahihirap yung pagbili ng mountain bike, so I get it.

Then I want an iPhone, then a Macbook Pro, and so on. In other words, an endless cycle of giving into these "wants", with the reason that I can afford them anyway and buying them won't make me any poorer.

But at the end of, say, 1 year, the total cost of these toys would have been enough to cover the downpayment of a condo.

It's true that the act of buying any single one of these wants did not make me substantially poorer. But the mindset of buy-what-i-want-because-yolo meant that I pay the opportunity cost of being able to make bigger investments and purchases.

Yes, you only live once. But on average, that one life will last you 3/4 of a century. If you want to be comfortable for your entire lifespan, you can't just live for now, you have to prepare for the medium and long-term as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating that we should all live like paupers in the present so that some time in the future we can splurge all our savings and investments. Rather, I prefer to try and avoid the root of excessive spending - materialism.

Admittedly it's very difficult to try and be happy with little. I myself find myself having moments where I just want to buy this and that. But you can keep it in moderation - perhaps set a maximum budget for your toys instead of a carefree spending attitude.

Of course, if you're just forcing yourself to be thrifty, but deep inside you want to splurge, sooner or later you'll wallow in self pity and unleash a spending spree. Which is why I go back again to focusing on moderating your materialism instead - be happy with little, focus on more important aspects of life (relationships, experiences, a sense of purpose).

Agree Ako dito... Ganyan ang nangyayari sakin, I can afford to buy things pero, Pwede din naman kasing Wala.. Like a new Phone, SUV-- It's within my means, pero if something new comes around, should I always buy it.? Of course not...

Kaya contentment is the key here... Learn to be contented with what you have..

Buy only when it needs to be replaced...

For two years, we list down all our expenses down to the last centavo. We review ot every month, and eliminate all those unnecessary expenses. We were able to save with that practice since we knew what are our wants and needs.

If it aint broke dont replace it. If its broken, try to fix it and if yiu can fix it yourself do so.

Obsolescence is an exception and a problem, i try to sell my stuff that are almost obsolete and buy gadgets that are 1 level down from the latest.

I Try to eat more at home than out which may not be always possible.

When i see something i want i ask myself do i need it? If not i hopefully pass.

Now if i need and want something that i know i will buy, i usually try to get the best deal even if it takes a few days, few weeks, or if its expensive and could wait like an extra tv car or what even a few months. I discovered that after waiting and trying to get the best deal, you will find out if you really need it more so if more time passes away. Ex a new expensive timepiece. After 2 mo of trying to find the best deal, i passed on the purchase since nagsawa ako sa design.

CC is good as long as you pay for the full balance and have the annual fee waived. It won't be any cost to you.

Although not true in almost all of the establishments here in the Philippines : "Cash Is King"

    > Do not clutter your house

    > Do not create needs [especially if the unit is on sale]

    > If there is indeed a need,- "get the best value for money"

    > Again,- live within your means

    > Do not make the bank/credit card company happy,- instead use them.
