All of these financial planning books are in essense "true" naman eh, but none of the concepts will help if the reader doesn't understand the fundamental issues like budgeting, investing and controlling spending.
Uls: Exactly, they know how to make themselves rich as well by doing so. Would you buy a finance book from a guy who's bankrupt? hehe.

RE: Powerbooks: BWAHAHA! That's a great way to practice proper cashflow... just don't spend it!
RE: self-help books... true... these books won't work if you don't educate yourself on the basics. Most of this stuff is just common sense in an easy to read package.
Buying lots of these isn't as helpful for prospective entrepreneurs as going out and actually applying the principles is.

20k pesos? Fishball cart? (self-run)...
With that much, you can get a good price for cellcards, but the amount of time it takes you to sell makes earnings marginal.

November 6th, 2006 05:59 PM #10Actually you don't have to spend a lot of time to make earnings in this case relatively marginal.
Let's assume you can purchase the cellcards at distributor pricing. Then all you have to do is find a dealer to whom you can sell at 1% mark-up. Since the cellcard business is basically cash basis, you can actually turn around and do three transactions in one day, meaning you immediately go back to the telco after getting paid to buy more cards. So, in effect, you can generate a minimum 3% gross margin, more if you use the profits to buy more cards. After 5 days, you will have make 15% on your original P20K. In the succeeding weeks, you can up the ante by adding your profits to the original P20K to buy more cards and generate more profits.
Of course, in real life, the wholesale distributors generally have much bigger capital, get the best discount rates and are therefore able to turn around millions of pesos worth of cards in a single day. Since 1% of P1M is P10K, they actually make good money.
But you can pretty much apply the same principle to other businesses with the same potential.
Methinks the Battle of Carthage scene in Russel Crowe's Gladiator (yr. 2000) is a homage to that...
