for not having a place for mirrors, windows and windshields, i just place this post here.
there had been cases of stolen side mirrors in manila. there is one option that is to eliminate the side mirrors and replace them with rear facing cameras just like the backing camera. first, it reduces air drag for fuel economy, second, it eliminates the side mirror which is vulnerable to bumping when the car is parked, third, it increases the space between parked cars. aside from replacing the side mirrors with low drag rear facing cameras, the wiper arms too can be streamlined to park vertical alongside the A pillars part of the windshield frame, that is, if the wipers are not recessed into the cowl. this reduction in air drag will reduce fuel consumption and wind noise. these cameras can even be linked to the anti theft system taking video of potential or actual larceny of the vehicle. detroit has not thought of these ideas for now

Some concept cars have already explored this in some of their design. Of course the problem is the added camera and video displays will add to the overall cost & complexity of a car. With that in mind, using cameras in place of sidemirrors can only be done in higher end cars where the added cost will not significantly affect sales.
