Hi ma'am Bing. I have the same situation here. My vehicle is also insured under MAPRE and was around 6 months old when it was fully submerged in the flood. I also asked them to declare it as a total loss but they explained that they will do so if the cost of repair will reach 70% of the car's value (which they estimated that it will not). They opted for repair (in which, UNTIL THIS DAY is not done!) and was taken to a shop on pasig because by the time it was towed (1 week after Ondoy), all CASA are fully booked. The talyer's owner keeps on giving so many reasons on why the repair isn't finished yet. The first thing he said was that they were waiting for a stock of the EPS (electronic power steering) which took for about 3-4 months to arrive. And by this 3-4 month period they didn't even chose to look at the other damages of the vehicle! I kept on asking them to repaint the scratches and fix the dents but his usual reply was "pagka dumating na ung piyesa sir saka natin gagawin yan. Madali lang yan sir". Parang anong koneksyon nung repaint sa Electronic Power Steering?? Does it have to take 4 months or so to repaint scratches and fix dents? It was so frustrating, up until now it is. Because I thought that the EPS was the last thing to repair in my car (as said by the owner of the shop). But by the time that the EPS arrived, he reasoned out naman that the Spark Plug needs to be replaced and that they are still waiting for the stock to arrive. Then after it became available, the radio naman, then the lights, and so goes the list of the never ending reasons. Parang they take the repair one by one, yung pagka may nakita silang kailangan i-repair yun muna gagawin nila then after nila magawa yun maghahanap na naman sila ng iba pang kailangan gawin, and so on. I think they did not do a FULL REVIEW on the extent of the damage to my car kaya nagkaka-ganyan sila ngayon.

The sad part is that I'm still paying my monthly amortization for 7 months now even though I am not using the vehicle. I don't know what to do in this situatuation anymore kasi parang walang katapusan ung inaayos nila sa kotse ko. It might even be possible that the repair will take a year! I don't know whom to give the blame, to the shop owner or to MAPRE.

hi Kutchie!why did you allow only a talyer to do the job? that was initially done to my tucson. We brought it to Hyundai Pasig (towing was done through our own efforts not via mapfre!) and WITHOUT our approval, Mapfre took it and brought it for detailing to Velocity Motors (which didn't do a good job at all, with all the dents after). We demanded that it be taken back to Hyundai, where it is sitting now for 7 months. You should demand from Mapfre (despite how pathetic our insurance is!). Go to the Insurance Commission and seek help. Although we did this (meeting with Mapfre mediated by IC) and we were not that satisfied with the result, maybe after all the complaints now with Mapfre there at the IC, something can be done with your case.

good luck to us and do keep us posted with the developments. if only we all got BPI/MS insurance, we would not have had to deal with this stress as BPI/MS declared total loss all cars submerged reaching dashboard level. (sigh)...

They usually own the insurance co. and Mitsui is in operation since 1700.

Actually bago lang bpi-ms, since 1999 lang ata so I choose FLT who is with MS since 1977.
I chose the co which has an older relationship with MS. I dont know kung ilan
I just happen to know 2. I went to FLT because mas matagal sya at maganda feedback
ng mga independent garages which i trust more than CASA.
You can check the profile of your present insurer and if it is partly owned by
(And remember it is a regulated industry)

As for bpi ms it is an ayala group and the CASA is owned by ayala rin.
So you pay a little more for the ayala brand.

I went to the Elizalde brand(Lepanto Mining, Tutuban, Armalite, etc).
Because they make good cakes, mahilig ako sa cake eh.
doon. Even when I am just buying cakes.
    Thanks Sir.

Our other car was given total loss by Standard. Everything was resolved quickly upon technical report stating it's for total loss (the repair is too costly, radio alone costs 55k daw). Honestly, I didn't have as much problem with them as i had with MAPFRE, i must say. I suggest kulitin mo lang ng kulitin yung contact mo at Standard. Just try to follow up every so often. They are far better humane than those at Mapfre. Although honestly, yung Chevy Captiva namin, same din. No parts available so til now, 7 months have passed, it's still in the casa. There's no issue with the insurance as it doesnt have Acts of God coverage but if they say there's no parts, we really cant do anything. Good luck to us!

Thanks Bing for the heads up. maayos naman pala standard.

Hi Ma'am Bing. Sadly, as of today the repair of my car is still not finished. I checked it last Saturday and although the car's condition came to a major improvement since I last saw it, I can't tell if it is really in good condition since I haven't taken it yet for a test drive. The only major part that needs to be replaced is the Power Steering module (which the shop owner said a month ago that it was already replaced).

I think 7 months is more than enough for a flooded unit to be repaired, MAPRE is really testing our patience. If they can't repair it, they should probably declare it as a total loss as I don't know how long they will let us wait for the repair.

I think I'll follow your advise and try to go to the Insurance Commission to file a complaint. Will update you of the results.
