    the word is, "nakasanayan".

eto lang yong mga naririnig kong dahilan in doing this for old cars:

yun nabasa ko sa isang book or magazine yata, di daw good practice to rev up the engine before shutting down coz when your rev up the engine, the oil drains off from the cylinders or something. so pag start up mo the next time around, mas konti lang yung oil that's present on the engine cylinders, it will contribute to premature damage to the engine cylinders daw kasi less lubrication during start up. that's if you always do that practice.

as to why, alam ko rin old practice sa gas engines. aside from getting fuel to fill up the carburator, para din yata ma flush out any excess fuel sa engine para di "lunod"/flooded yung engine with fuel the next time you start your car. pag lunod kasi engine, di mag start up agad. yun ang pagkaalam ko.

our 3-cylinder diesel kubota farm tractor needs to rev up para ma-off ang engine nya.

Even during the '70s, this was the popular belief by old school drivers but really you are just wasting fuel. Even for gas car engines. I don't see any benefit in doing so.

Nakakatawa nga nung minsan may pumunta sa bahay namin then the young driver revved up the car before turning it off. I asked him why does he do that. He simply said "Wala lang. I learned it from my Dad.."

Palagay ko nauso ito in the old days because fuel was CHEAP but batteries were expensive and electricals weren't sophisticated enough to make a battery last more than a couple of years even with moderate use.

Sure, nowadays it seems silly -- but the situation has been totally reversed. It therefore pays to keep asking WHY -- and to do so continually.

revving up your diesel ride first before shutting it down?
