some good news, hoping this will last

Strong peso triggers oil price cuts

Petroleum companies on Thursday announced reductions on prices on the back of a strong peso-US dollar exchange and lowered crude oil rates in the world market, ABS-CBN News reported.

Pilipinas Shell's Bobby Kanapi said the company implemented a P0.50 per liter cut on diesel and P1 per liter slash on gasoline and kerosene starting 6 a.m.

Petron, meanwhile, said it has similarly reduced prices for diesel, gasoline and kerosene products.

Reports said Caltex Philippines has also reduced prices. The company, however, has yet to release an official statement.

Small player Unioil said similar cuts took effect on diesel and gasoline beginning 7 a.m.

Total Philippines likewise announced a P0.50 per liter and P1 per liter price cuts on diesel and gasoline, respectively. Total spokeswoman Malou Espina said reduced prices will be implemented at 12 p.m.

Eastern Petroleum said it will take P1 off per liter of gasoline and P0.20 per liter of diesel starting 12 p.m.

The price cuts Thursday came a week after petroleum companies implemented a P1 per liter slash on gasoline and kerosene products.

Petroleum companies have so far cut prices thrice for August.

The peso hit its highest level in four years on Thursday, extending recent gains on upbeat economic news, an easing of worries about political uncertainty and strong demand for local stocks and bonds.

The peso strengthened beyond they key 50.88 resistance level to 50.80 per dollar, its highest level since July 2002, according to Reuters data.

Crude oil price, meanwhile, briefly dipped to a 10-week low of $68.65 on Wednesday, after a report from the US government showing a surprise build in stockpiles. With reports from DZMM, Reuters

Anyway, kausap namin ang isang grupo ng mga investment bankers from one of the top banks in the country and they're telling us that the projection is for a USD1= PHP49 next year.

The peso is the 5th strongest currency in Asia vs. the USD this year, after Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea...
