i think kasi mga oil companies constantly bumibili ng oil from the world market, so obviously what they buy reflects the increase, but what they sell to you (at a given time period) are oil supplies that they bought previously.

i still don't know why people are bashing oil companies so much during fuel price increases but not the supplier of oil and the exchange rate of the country.

oil companies are still businesses, all businesses try to maximize profit and minimize losses.

(balik sa thread ni Ping hehe)

    mbt,

ganito kasi yun... pag nagpaparating ka ng cargo, say diesel... may iba-ibang methods of attaining your price per barrel. pwedeng monthly average, pwedeng 1 week average, pwedeng date of arrival of cargo. pag matyempuhan mo na super taas ng MOPS (mean of platts singapore) rate, boljak ka sa taas ng presyo ng produkto mo. take into consideration pa yung exchange rate, customs duties/excise tax, yan ang bumubuo ng cost ng diesel importation na yun. and hindi naman on demand na kung mahal ang produkto, taas agad ng pump price.

actually ang shell and petron yung may pinakamalaking margin since they import crude and refine here. for example, 1 barrel of crude costs mga $40. their refining cost is only $2 per barrel. kaya malaki pa spread nila vs importing finished goods.

*** take note na theoretical situation yan and not based on actual figures yung example ko

    i agree with this...

on more thing, haven't they noticed that the fuel prices here are comparatively lower than those of other countries?

AND the militant groups are asking that the government to scrap the oil dereg law (and subsidize oil prices). geez, as if we aren't experiencing budget deficits.

and yet, i still continue to see PUVs idling in street corners and cars with only 1 passenger in it. if they are really feeling the pinch then they also should have done something on their part.
