some fun things that acetone will do with your car:

    1. Pre-ignition of the fuel
    2. Damage to fuel lines from normal acetone properties
    3. Water in acetone condenses inside cylinders, or rusts out your gas tank
    4. Ketones and other oxygen-bearing organics like ethanol have been known to produce carcinogenic incomplete combustion products in exhaust.

I think pre-ignition problem will only happen if too much acetone is added. The same is true for possible fuel line damage, only will happen if too high a concentration is added.

As for water, it pure acetone, not acetone and water mixture.

    ethanol and acetone is different.

    Acetone (CH3COCH3)
    Ethanol (CH3CH2OH)

from the acetone-gasoline boards... the amount of acetone use should be carefully measured.

from another experiment... a guy soaked his fuel lines & gaskets in gasoline-acetone mixture... no fuel line damage although the gaskets slightly expanded.

precise measurements, via graduated cylinder, on the amount of acetone to be applied to the nail.

since my car had less than half a tank of gasoline left, I went ahead and filled up 60mL of acetone and then a full tank of gasoline. I hope this would ensure a better distribution of the acetone thoughout the gas tank.

I measured the amount of acetone via graduated cylinder. I probably looked weird to the gas pump guy.

    60mL is a touch over 2oz.

I've driven about ten kilometers since my fill up and so far nothing out of the ordinary has happened.

Fuel conservation using acetone...
