    Hi All!

From my sources in Chemrez, their biodiesel is not the one producing the problems in those test.

The biodiesel in question is from another producer.

Hope this puts to rest your concerns regarding BioActiv.

So far, initial findings state that the tuba-tuba or Jathropa produced biodiesel doesn't really match up to that made of coconut oil.

However, it is still a bit premature to dismiss it as studies are still ongoing.

    Hope this helps.

Ironic how PNOC and Saudi Aramco are supporting jatropha when Petron isn't supporting cocobiodiesel...

PNOC, Samsung in P8.2-B jatropha farm, refinery project

    By Abigail L. Ho

PNOC Alternative Fuels Corp., a unit of state-owned Philippine National Oil Co., signed Friday a memorandum of understanding with Korea’s Samsung Corp. for an P8.2-billion jatropha plantation and refinery project.

The project involves a 120,000-hectare jatropha plantation costing P6.0 billion and a 200,000-metric ton (MT) biofuel refinery costing P2.23 billion.

PNOC Alternative Fuels and Samsung will jointly prepare basic plans for what they call Jatropha-based BioFuel Producing Project, including a preliminary feasibility study and sales strategies for the product.

They will hire an international consultant in drafting the plans.

“We are targeting the final feasibility report this November, and we are expecting favorable results,” PNOC Alternative Fuels president and chief executive Peter Anthony Abaya said.

The said both companies wanted to fast-track the project.

Jatropha, locally known as “tuba-tuba,” is described as a drought-resistant perennial shrub whose fruit can be processed into oil. The oil can be further refined to produce diesel.

If the project will be found feasible, Samsung will arrange financing and do the engineering, procurement and construction of the biodiesel refinery.

Samsung will also handle marketing overseas.

PNOC-Alternative Fuels is aiming for several biofuel refineries totaling one million metric tons in capacity and jatropha plantations totaling 700,000 hectares. These are to be mostly in the southern island of Mindanao.

The company has ongoing negotiations with prospective joint venture partners and expects to sign more memoranda of understanding before yearend.

According to data from PNOC Alternative Fuels, a refinery with an annual capacity of 60,000 metric tons will need feedstock from a 30,000-hectare jatropha plantation, while one with an annual capacity of 240,000 metric tons will need raw material supply from a 120,000-hectare plantation.

“We are upbeat about jatropha and we aim to become a prominent alternative fuels-producing company,” Abaya said.

The company also intends to put up a refinery, with a daily capacity of 50,000 barrels, that will use low-rank coal as feedstock, and a biofuels central terminal facility.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently disclosed that Saudi Aramco, the government’s partner in Petron Corp., an affiliate of PNOC, planned to put up a jatropha processing plant in Mindanao. With INQ7.net

With two sources now, coco and tuba-tuba (), our country should really get serious about this.

alam ko naglabas na dati ang senbel. parang namatay din yata saka sa quezon province lang daw yata nabenta. from what I've read sa isang study done in UP TMC (traffic mangt center yata tawag dun, basta yung katabi ng Melchor hall, yung may malaking sundial), nasubok na yata nila sa tricycles. can't remember the results though... parang reduced emissions din yata. medyo maingay lang daw kasi di makuha ng cme ang viscosity required for a lubricating oil...masyado sya malabnaw.

The Senate approved yesterday on second and third reading Senate Bill (SB) No. 226, "An Act that would Allow the Use of Biofuels as an Alternative Source of Fuel for the Transport Sector."

Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, author of the bill "Biofuel Act of 2006," welcomed the unanimous approval of the measure, saying its passage will not only promote the use of indigenous renewable fuels but would also reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel and promote the protection of public health and environment.

The bill makes it mandatory for vehicle owners to use two kinds of biofuel: The Bioethanol or E10 from sugarcane as an additive to gasoline, and Biodiesel or B1 from coconut, as an additive to diesel.

Miriam stressed that the bill directs the immediate compulsory use because the two fuel blends require no engine modification for either diesel or gasoline engines.

Senate President Manuel "Manny" B. Villar Jr. said the biofuel bill is very timely at this time when the price of oil in the world market is rising.

"It will have a big effect in our economy and it is about time that we look for alternative source of fuel," Villar said after the biofuel bill was approved in a plenary session of the Senate.

Aside from its positive effects in the economy, Villar said the biofuel bill will also help the agriculture sector and could encourage people to engage in farming and convert their produce into biofuels.

The Senate President expressed optimism that both chambers of Congress would be able to finish their respective versions when Congress session resumes next month.

"I don’t see any difference between the House and Senate versions and I am optimistic that everything will be reconciled during the bicameral conference," he said.

The House of Representatives recently approved its own version of the biofuel bill authored by Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Biofuel is derived from biomass, living organisms like plants or their metabolic byproducts, such as manure from cows. It is a renewable energy source, unlike other natural resources such as petroleum, coal, and nuclear fuels.

Under the bill, all liquid fuels for motors and engines sold in the Philippines shall contain locally sourced components.

Bioethanol will be blended at five percent into all gasoline fuel distributed and sold in the country within two years from the effectivity of the act.

The mandatory five percent blend of bioethanol, according to Miriam, will save the country $ 160 million annually, while the 10 percent blend in the fourth year will save the country $ 354 million.

Biodiesel will be blended into all diesel fuels, immediately upon the effectivity of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to be issued by the Department of Energy, through the Biofuel Board, which will be created by the law.

Within two years from the effectivity of the act, the Biofuel Board will mandate two percent of biodiesel by volume.

meron sila before. I sold their CME na 2T and used in on 6- kawasaki HDIII (125cc) na pang delivery. I also have the studies conducted by Senbel. Sa experience ko mukhang may problema nga sa viscosity coz had problems with piston rings seizing. Subjective etong observation na ito. I think kailangan pang i-test.
