any chance you can get the other parameters of their experiment? such as how long did they use it on the hilux, what the odo reading was prior to use of bd?
i'm not an expert though i've been using bd for a year now. it could be what they experienced was the initial cleansing properties of bd and it may be that all those particles they saw was gunk that pre-existed in the hilux prior to using bd now released.

September 3rd, 2006 06:30 PM #852Ask them what is the brand of BD they used. In my study, the quality of BD plays a major role in clogging of the injectors and lines. That's why I switched brands and am wary of home brews.Water issues are more of the fuel tanks that were used in refueling rather than BD. That's why my own overhead diesel tank that is premixed with BD, I retrofitted it as advised by diesoline and garyq, with a fuel filter from one of my 10W trucks, and a home made water separator which recently broke so walang water separator ngayon. But which among the retail gas stations have their fuel filtered prior to being dispensed into your car? Wala. So if the underground tank of the gas station is contaminated with water, ayun, you got water in your car's fuel tank as well.

According to them it is a Brandnew Hi-Lux they stop at exactly 130,000KM at ODO reading.
They dont want to disclose the supplier's name coz its part of the contract daw.
Basta sabi nya one of the major brand daw.Last edited by larshell; September 4th, 2006 at 10:20 AM.

about the toyota experiment... it's hard to say unless they give all the details. saka may control vehicle ba? did they also counter check or retain samples of the diesel fuel that was used with the experiment.
nung first time ko gumamit ng biodiesel... nagbara din fuel filter ko nun. but it did not stop me from continuing using it. so far, been using it on and off for the past 3 years and ok naman experience ko... reduced emissions (as shown by my emission tests w/c continually dropped every year), good fuel consumption (although I'd not associate this solely to my use of bd since driving conditions has a lot of factor to play).
yung corrossion and clogging issue, unless they give me analysis data, and parallel analysis for a vehicle operated with pure diesel, mahirap magconclude.

September 5th, 2006 07:34 AM #855On a lighter note, kudos to Chemrez for stepping forward to help with the cleanup of the oil spill in the visayas! I read the article in the philippine star yesterday.

September 22nd, 2006 10:56 AM #856More on high medicine costs, CME
BIZLINKS By Rey Gamboa
The Philippine Star 09/18/2006
Finally, a few more updates from our biofuels enthusiast, Gerardo P. Baron, on his continued experiments and studies.
"After running a few more tests that included Homemade CME (HCME), coconut methyl ester continues to look like a new and viable Philippine product that the entire world can benefit from.
"CME should make every Filipino proud. We can export CME. It improves the performance of regular diesel by increasing fuel mileage, improving power and lowering emissions. Test results include:
"(1) Homemade biodiesel (HMBD) from used cooking oil is not compatible with CME. When comparing the two, do not use them together or one after the other as they degrade each other;
"(2) Our tests discovered that five-percent HMBD is needed to get the same performance as one percent CME. This makes HMBD more expensive and irrelevant. It will be dropped from the tests; and
"(3) One-percent CME blends (either commercially or home-made) give nine to 12-percent increase in mileage. This translates to about P0.32 savings per kilometer.
One percent still effective
"Original tests included HMBD only because mileage improvement claims of 10 to 12 percent using only one percent CME seemed unrealistic. This was considering that other biodiesels in the world use blends of five to 20 percent to get the same results.
"But the results show that one-percent CME can deliver on its claims. Even HCME replicated CME, proving that a mere one percent CME is better than other biodiesels, even those made elsewhere in the world.
"Diesel with one-percent CME is more expensive but it is actually cheaper to use than regular diesel because it gives more fuel mileage.
"Although long term effects of using CME are unknown, a one percent blend does not appear to be significantly detrimental. Only further tests will actually help detect any flaws or un-wanted effects. In the meantime, scientific studies show that CME is safe to use.
"It doesn’t seem much, but if more people (individuals, jeepneys, bus companies and trucking fleets) use one-percent CME for every one million kilometers logged, P320,000 will be saved. If this is done on a daily basis, P116 million will be saved annually.
"Please consider using one-percent CME even before it is mandated by law so we can begin saving money and breathing cleaner air. We can’t tell the world to use CME unless we ourselves use it!
"Compared to other fuel-saving options, CME biodiesel does not require engine modifications or major expenses. You don’t even need technical assistance. You can perform the test easily and inexpensively.

September 23rd, 2006 09:45 AM #858hmmm... i can recall one major biodiesel brand that had this issue before... so what happened next? is toyota going to say "forget biodiesel!" or are they going to recommend improvements. or is toyota going to try a different supplier. or are they going to send out a warning on biodiesel use. what will the anonymous supplier do?
IMHO, it shouldn't just stop there.

September 23rd, 2006 09:51 AM #859to our friends here from chemrez, are you looking into this or at least trying to get info from toyota (that is if you're not the supplier here... hehehehe)? I doubt that you are... for the record. But you seem to be quiet about this... makes me feel concerned.
