September 4th, 2005 01:42 AM #382Hi I am new to the forum.
I thought I might be able to offer help to those looking for biodiesel.
Been researching on Biodiesels for a 2 months now and how it affects diesel engines (positive or negative) seems like the pluses outweigh the minuses.
Based on data from different biodiesel sources, the only negative effect is on seals and that is with the use of blends above 20% provided the glycerine removal is adequate. According to the chemrez data, their Japan testing shows the superiority of their Coco biodiesel in this and other respects.
Started using it 1 month ago and truly the increase in power is great and i think there is a .5-1km per liter improvement in mileage. Something we need badly coz diesel is now P30.9. Was concerned with what Toyota has to say but apparently as stated in the thread...whew okay pala sa innova.
For those in the QC Commonwealth Ave. area, they sell at a kiosk on the upper ground floor of Berkeley Square Mall near corner of Tandang Sora. They scrapped the 1 liter bottles already and last time I bought 500ml is P70 and 225ml is P40. I even got the cellphone of the seller in case you have questions or need directions (09187568800). They say if you live in the area they will deliver minimum of 1box or 12bottles 500ml. (P840.00), which I did. I suppose sa mga Tierra etc... subdivisions and La vista katipunan area??? Sulit na rin instaed of going out and searching all the time.
Kulay green pa so its so... well green!
Thanks

guys, pasesnsya na kung di scientific yung post ko at walang stats.
i just bought a repossessed 2001 Kia Carnival Park 2 and it had not been used for 10 months. grabe ang usok nung pinaandar namin. nung tumayo ako sa likod at pina 3k rpm namin, yung puti kong medyas at rubber shoes nagkulay abo. (as i said di scientific.) we took the chance of buying it dahil sa mga recommendation ng biodiesel and the price.
i started off with 20% blend as recommended by some peeps here and at the Sedona/Carnival thread. I never got to use the car without it, but after 3 weeks and a full tank's worth, pumasa naman sa emission test. bad trip lang at di nakuha nung inutusan ko yung score. (no stats) of course, may iba ring ginawa like change oil, palit oil-air-fuel filters, muffler washing, at cleaning ng intake manifold.
pero kung visual lang ang test, pag umakyat ako sa casa ng Wheels E Rod, which is a steep circular 2 level path ala SM megamall, wala o halos walang usok. when i'm driving, i don't see other cars keeping away. sa smell test, yung exhaust fumes di ko lang masabi na amoy french fries as others describe it, but definitely not terribly unpleasant.
ibababa ko na to 10% blend for 1 more full tank (iba na ang concept ko ngayon ng full tank dahil 75l capacity!) and eventually level off at 1-5%.
Biodiesel rules nga! i bought a 20l pail of bioactiv (manufactured by chemrez) at AMR for P1,300. AMR is near sm cubao. their number is 4377233. they also sell 1l at P70+ dati. if you prefer estrol by senbel, i heard a tsikoteer garyq, is a distributor.

hi,
i too have been follwing this discussion and pondering whether to use biodiesel or not on my 2004 dmax. its in good running condition at 43+ thousand kms use o no noticable smoke but at nights when i throttle the accelarator, i see a cloud being highlighted by other vehicles headlights. it could be dust since when i duplicate 3k rpms on standstill, no smoke but i can smell the fumes.
mr. altec reported some possible bad effects on vehicles running on long term use with biodiesel. but i think he isolated these problems with other factors and not entirelyy with the cocodiesel only.
then i came up with these method of use;
1) use 2% cocodiesel only on the 3000km point before your next 5k PMS. or for just 2000kms at a time, so you can integrate your fuel filter change on a regular PMS.
2) use as an additive, or a 10%mix every quarter or so. just to clean your fuel system
i know i will not get the full effects of cocodiesel on either of the two methods. but will enjoy the good effects and delay or prevent the reported bad effect of cocodiesel. especially on the detoriation of the fuel lines.
please give your comments and advises
thanks

September 4th, 2005 10:24 AM #385Kurt, since you've followed pala my research, update ko lang kayo regarding that problem that you read. Last friday, I've narrowed down the problem to the quality of diesel, instead of previous insinuations by parties I talked to that the problem could be from CME. Crosschecking our files when the fuel knock started on my kia, it somehow was in the same time period when my motorpool reported several canters injection pump becoming noisy plus other problems. As we used several diesel suppliers for our overhead diesel tank, we have tentatively pointed our finger to PETRON. When we called up their representative, sabi nila what they supplied us was automotive grade, not industrial grade, at 54 cetane. I called up the Kia advisor to inform him of my theory na nagstart yung fuel knock when I loaded with petron-sourced diesel (twice ako naka refuel from that particular delivery), nagulat ako when he said he also received complaints from other owners of petron diesel being dirty. But it is hard to say it is only petron because we get diesel from 3 different suppliers, whoever quotes us the best rates at that point in time. The fuel knock I suspect is not due to the dumi, pero with the cetane rating. Could be kulang sa 54 ang actual delivery, or 54 is too low for some diesel engines. Kasi the 2nd of 3 suppliers I have reports theirs is 56 cetane.
My motorpool mechanic then showed me a removed 2 month old vic fuel filter that was so dirty, and the diesel we used to wash the filter was also dirty!
Considering that CME or whatever additive we may use purportedly to improve our smoke emissions, the next thing I want to highlight to biodiesel users and would be users, is that if we use unusually dirty diesel (even though it is commonly assumed that Philippine diesel is dirty), the use of CME or any additives will create more problems with fuel filter clogging because CME will clean out these sediments which will be caught by the fuel filter. But if we continue to load dirty diesel, kawawa ang filters natin.
I am going to talk to our diesel suppliers again next week. Sayang lang ang pag halo ko ng cocodiesel sa diesel namin. Before we will reload our overhead tank, we will clean out the overhead tank first to determine the extent of the dirt and sediments.
Another thing we have to worry about- in the course of my investigation, nagulat ako when one of those I talked to, said that he knows a gas station owner who caught one of the delivery trucks deliberately delivering him adulterated diesel. Adulterated with water. Whenever this trucker is used, he is always delayed by almost an hour to travel from the depot to his gas station. When delivered one day, he used his water meter checker and discovered water in the tanker! He eventually found out this trucker would get around 2 carboys (or a total of 40 liters) of diesel, and replace it with 40 liters of water. So when it is pumped into the station's tanks, the total liters will tally.
The point I am driving at is that whether the diesel is watered down, dirty, or adulterated with industrial grade, we will not know until it is too late. And the use of CME may only accelerate the emergence of these hidden problems.Last edited by altec; September 4th, 2005 at 10:27 AM.

sir
on the dirty part, what will be the status of your fleet if your research indicate that mixing current quality of Pinoy diesel with Cocodiesel is not wise. if you continue to use coco diesel it might raise your fleet expenses on monitoring every fuel delivery to make sure it is what you are buying.
for me that would not be possible, i just try to trust the 3 gas stations i use, shell at j.vargas, petron at marcos hway and petron at p.tuazon-n.domingo. and i switched from shell to petron on advices from other users. but shell ako coz i believed their transport service is the cleanest because of their fleet of newer tankers, whats the use of having the best diesel fuel if its carried in dirty tankers.
OT: then the accident at fairview happend.
My personal decision right now is to wait and see. Research from good persons like you who share un-biased info. For that we thank you.
Pardon me; but i have to write this
OT; the goverment should be the one actively doing this research. and also with ethanol. both derived from locally available products, coconuts and sugarcanes. not just promoting CNG, it might be philippine owned resources but it is Controlled and Operated by Oil Companies too; Shell and Chevron. The public must be informed.

I've noticed that whenever I used diesel from the Big Three, the performance of my van suffers a bit, as in, mas mahina ang hatak and a bit more visible smoke. But when I get diesel from Seaoil or Flying V, parang mas ok ang performance.

Most CRDI's now come with 2-stage fuel filters and some even come with sedimentors to filter out even the most minute dirt that can plug an injector.

May nakasubok na bang mag full tank ng BD sa mga tsikoteers? Or rather the question is, may nakasubok na bang gumamit ng 100% BD? What would be the consequences of using 100% BD (aside of course the cost)? What about other BDs derived from cooking oils, are they inferior to cocodiesels?
