imo you have to know first how many liters capacity your fuel tank has. then you calculate accordingly in relation to what your fuel gauge indicates. there are no hard and fast rules as to what blend you have to adhere to. it's all a matter of preference. in my case, i find it convenient to just pour in a liter or so of bd before refueling to full tank from less than 1/4 level.

this was from newsweek's issue last week.

in the article, rapeseed biodiesel was described as " a high-performing, high-octane fuel." they probably meant cetane... coconut biodiesel was just cited in passing along with palm oil and soybeans.

Whoever wrote the Newsweek article must be European (Stefan Theil) since rapeseed is their local feasible source of BD production.

For the tropics then theres coconut oil (like in Phils.) and palm oil (like in Malaysia); and with higher cetane index than rapeseed oil (Europe) or soybean oil (US). In addition to this, we have a "production yield" advantage over the Europeans and Americans when we start growing our fuel needs since rapeseed oil only yeilds 1,190 liters of oil per hectare, while coconut yields 2,689 liters of oil per hectare. The big yield is with palm oil - 5,950 liters per hectare plantation.

thanks to fuego4x2 for sharing this valuable link with us: http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_yield.html

Dito pa lang e lamang na tayo. We should seriously start thinking of also growing our fuel needs. Last weeks crude oil price peaked at US$66/barrel (wasn't it just US$18/barrel 5 years ago?). By the end of the year magkano na kaya?

Do you think pump price for diesel will hit P50.- by year end?; it's now P30.45/liter.

Jaeger, I'm already getting worried over this fuel price issue. Being a gas user, I'm feeling the pinch already. Buti ka, may BD ka. ako, and other gassers wala

When I was in high school I thought I would driving cars running on nukes, solar cells, or any fuel except petroleum. I was so dead wrong...

    diesoline,

i speak ilokano and was raised & born in baguio. i am a cordilleran.

for those using petrol, i heard that ethanol (sugar cane, cassava . . . derivative?) is being developed as an alternative fuel. indeed, it is high time for our government to seriously consider the development of alternative fuel; we have lots of raw materials and resources. i hope our dear (?) politicians will start re-focusing their efforts and re-directing their priorities.

    OT:

Sometimes I think the car manufacturers are selling the wrong type of car here sa Pinas. Dba meroon nang LPG/LNG/CNG powered cars?

We have 4.5 trillion cubic feet of LNG in 1,600 meters of water in Malampaya-this should be powering our cars and also for production of electricity. We have enough LNG reserves for thousands of years and can even export LNG.

By exploiting this as our primary source of energy/fuel, then we will be less dependent on imported oil. Most of our BOP deficit is caused by importation of crude oil. Oil to produce electricity, fuel vehicles, etc.

Mga kapatid, totoo pong lahat ang mga statements nyo tungkol sa would-be fuel alternatives. But let us be realistic, without forcing the government and all these politicians (kuno) to do something about all these BD, CNG, HydroPowered, etc., hanggang posts lang po tayo. The government is relying heavily on the fuel companies' taxes kaya kayang-kaya nilang diktahan ang gobyerno not to develop these natural fuel sources.

Don't forget french frier oil, vegetable oil and all those other cooking oils as sources of BioDiesel.

question lang po... biodiesel cleans the engine diba? which in turn will make your filter dirty on the first use because it will remove all the smudge in your engine. is it advisable to use it after ko mag PMS sa casa? or do I have to wait until my next PMS to use it para isang palit lang? Im driving an Innova by the way, just so you know the engine is quite new.
