August 11th, 2005 04:32 PM #273I have just started using Senbel Estrol in my Innova D-4D CRDI at 1.8% (1-li. BD in 55-li. full tank). So far, my engine (only 2,000km on odometer) seems to be taking it well. As usual, all the positive manifestations of using BD came out. I think, the myth that "using coco-based biodiesel will ruin your CRDI" is not accurate. I only went through with this when I learned that there are already some users of BD in their CRDI Sorrentos without problems.
Also, on the net, France & Germany already require by law BD2 since 2003 scaling up to BD5.75 by 2010, so all the CRDI Benzes & Bimmers are already running with BD.
BTW, their BD in Europe is based on rapeseed oil which has 50-55 cetane index. US is using BD from soybean oil with 53 cetane index. Our BD is based on coconut oil with 70 centane index (no wonder my 3 turbo-diesels now have car-like acceleration).
So I guess BD's safe on CRDIs. If something goes wrong with my engine, I will post it right away.
I think altec has also started using BD in his Innova.
Altec, any encouraging words or precautions?

August 11th, 2005 08:19 PM #275Jaeger, nauna ka na sa akin sa innova! Am still waiting for my next refuel, natagalan lang coz I sent my innova to the casa for warranty claim on the noisy tailgate. Should start by early next week. Will catch up with you. Plan to start at 2% just to be sure that the 1st load is fully mixed before shifting to 1%.

Is there really a right % for this? Will it damage the engine if you add too much/too few/too soon? Pasensya na, 1st time diesel owner here (innova din). Might as well try it, for environment's sake.

August 12th, 2005 09:03 AM #280ergati, wala naman set ground rules on the dosage. In the U.S., their military uses BD20, which means 20%. In Europe, they started with 1%, and I think they are now at 5% as a standard. It's a matter of cost, although from my research, seems that if you use 1% or 5%, nababawi with better fuel consumption.
You can read my ongoing research here.
