May 23rd, 2005 09:53 PM #201having read that biodiesel is derived from vegetable oils...
wala bang corrosive properties ang vegetable oils? (given that they contain a certain percentage of fatty acids? kasi sa cooking oil meron eh)

my crdi kia carnival went through emissions testing yesterday. i was pleasantly surprised by the results.
opacimeter: 0.00k
carbon monoxide: 0.01%
hydrocarbons: 30 ppm
last year when the then 6 month old carnival was tested at the same center, i remember being disappointed to learn that it scored higher in the opacimeter (1.45) than my 5 year old frontier (.95). i started using biodiesel when i first bought bioexceed from seaoil on december 2004. i used it intermittently at a liter for every full tank. to solve my biodiesel supply woes in baguio city, i bought a carbouy of senbel from garyq last march. since then the carnival ran on a B2 blend.
sold na talaga ako sa effectiveness ng biodiesel in reducing emissions!

BOI grants incentives to Chemrez Inc.'s bio-diesel project
THE BOARD of Investments announced it had approved tax incentives for a P980-million bio-diesel project of Chemrez Inc.
The project comes at a time when the use of alternative fuels is being pushed to cushion the effects of escalating crude oil prices.
Chemrez currently produces resins, colorants and chemicals.
Chemrez is a unit of D&L Group--a leading provider of colors, chemicals and plastics in the country.
Under the new project, the company would produce bio-diesel using crude coconut oil as raw material.
The firm would also put up the first and most modern large-scale bio-diesel plant in Asia.
The plant is capable of producing 50,000 metric tons of bio-diesel a year.
The product, which would be sold under the brand "Bioactiv," was described as an enhancer that will help burn the fuel cleanly, without having to modify diesel engines.
According to the BOI, the product treats many of the problems that other additives address, such as cleansing, lubricating and oxygenating the fuel for efficient combustion, longer mileage and cleaner emission.
The agency said extensive tests conducted in the Philippines, Japan and Korea confirm the benefits of the product.
It is recommended that Bioactiv be blended with diesel at ratios between 1 and 5 percent.
Trade Secretary Juan B. Santos said the development of coco bio-diesel was considered a major breakthrough for the country, being the first to tap coconut oil to fuel diesel motors.
It was also for this reason that the BOI granted pioneer status to Chemrez's project.
BOI-registered projects enjoy incentives, such as income tax holidays, duty-free importation of capital equipment and other fiscal and non-fiscal perks.
Santos encouraged other companies to develop new products using raw materials that are abundant in the country.
"Using indigenous products as raw materials develops our local industries and at the same time produces manufactured goods that are needed by the local--and possibly the overseas--market."
