I believe coconut oil price went up, hence cocobiodiesel price went up as well.

I have been using BD & CME (up to 5% in July last year) on my 10+ year old Terrano, original pa ang fuel filter -- no problems. I'd say do not replace your fuel filter unless you know its clogged or you want to change it as part of your maintenance program.

I believe the export was done last quarter of 2006, when coconut oil price was lower.

FYI, the Biofuels Act states that the 1% blend applies to "all diesel engine fuels sold in the country". I interpret this means all diesel engines, regardless of whether it's used for vehicles, gensets, power plants, ships, etc.

Full text of the law at Republic Act 9367. See section 5.3.

I called up our industrial diesel supplier as I have my own overhead tank to ask if and when the mandated law requiring 1% preblend will take effect, how would they price their product. They told me that the law does not apply to industrial users. The reason why I was asking is that if it is already preblended, then I will start reducing my purchases and inventory of BD100.

Dr. Kamiya, in quoting an EROEI of 3:1, you generalize using the term "biodiesel", when in fact not all biodiesels are not created equal.

You quote the low EROEI of biofuels to conclude they are not viable alternatives to fossil fuels. That's the line the oil companies keep repeating to us. The fact is, no technology (solar, wind, etc) can match fossil fuels in terms of EROEI. So we should just give up and stick to buying and using fossil fuels, right?

But what about the effects on our environment?

Quoting here an article from the Inquirer, http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquirer...ticle_id=48746:

"Taking the opposite tack is a lobby group funded by one of the world’s largest oil companies. The Guardian UK reported that the American Enterprise Institute, an ExxonMobil-funded think tank with close links to the Bush administration, offered scientists and economists $10,000 each to undermine the IPCC report.

Climate scientists said the move was an attempt to cast doubt over the “overwhelming scientific evidence” on global warming."

    Makes me really sick.

IMO EROEI on biofuels is still too low for them to be a viable alternative to fossil fuels.

Mahal mag-testing ng 1% CME, specially if you buy CME for P74 per 500ml bottle. This is same as P150 per liter.

I suggest mixing 500 ml of CME with 100 liters of Diesel (0.5%) instead of just with 50 liters (1%.) This way you save money and find out what 0.5% can do for you (mileage wise). Get an emission report too and keep it.

Later when ALL diesel sold in the Philippines is 1% CME, find out your new mileage and new emission and compare data from 0.5%.

Sa akin pareho lang ang lumalabas na savings base sa "simulated dyno" testing of both blends after more than 8,000 km of tests.

    Thanks Gary & Niwde.

5% ba or can I just add 1%? Main purpose is just to keep my lines clean and avoid early calibration and injection cleaning.

bro agree with mazda, 1% at the most. Why not go for the preblended ng Flying V? Just an idea. Hindi ka na bibili ng B100.

OT: Garyq, ok lang, nakakalito mag costing ngayon dahil sa up and down price of diesel. Yung homebrew, I decided to terminate my research and just mix the homebrew into our overhead tank kasi namatay yung motorpool supervisor ko, so di na accurate yung monitoring ng testing. Siya nga yung unang nakadiscover yung problema natin with the other brand, remember that?

Back to topic. Regarding the biofuel law, I checked with chemrez and they say the law clearly states that all diesel has to be preblended. They are still discussing with some other industrial suppliers and haven't finalized.

Then again, I saw a news article today that the department of agriculture is doing a research report on coconut status if we will have enough coco plantation to supply the new law. 1% now, 2% in a few years time. Right now, CME has gone up, even coco byproducts like copra has gone up a lot. And the law hasn't really taken off yet.
