The GM website in Thailand announced the availability of the 2007 Tahoe Diesel V8 with LPG-Diesel mix. The diesel engine uses 80% diesel and 20% LPG simultaneously to experience an overall savings in diesel consumption. Apparently the ECU allows LPG to increase the "octane" rating of the diesel during cruise and acceleration modes. Diesel only when starting and idling. The overall consumption would be the aggregate consumption of both fuels. Maliit lang daw ung LPG tank. This car carries full warranty from GM Thailand. The advantage primarily is lower emissions (below Euro3 standards) without further expensive retooling of engine (no need for CRDi) and even greater fuel economy.
Re: tricycles. The Indian manufacturers have come over and are convincing local governments to require two-strokes primarily, to convert to LPG to reduce smoke emissions. If you remember we outlawed two-stroke because of emissions issues.
Four strokes are also encouraged to convert as well to reduce cost of fuel and increase take home for drivers. The kit is presently retailing at 12T pesos. Puerto Princesa City already has 50 tricycles running on autogas but access to fuel seems to be the limiting factor in the provinces at the moment. The City government has subsidized the cost of conversion which the tricycle driver/operator pays back over the next 12-16 months, I think.
Our neighboring municipality, Taytay, is mulling over the conversion of two-stroke local trikes right now.....Total has promised to put up a new LPG station on Ortigas Ave if Taytay converts!
FYI,
