Last march I was ecstatic at the performance of autogas compared to petrol. The idling was smoother, the torque at low revs incredible and the full throttle performance a bit less than that. But the economy was great -- I was saving 1-1,500 a week for a 50% improvement in my Php/km cost of mobility.
Its June now, and after a lot of tinkering with my ignition timing and tuning the regulator (marunong na ako - nagsawa na sa akin yung mga taga naiads!) I now have it tuned the way I like it. Strong and nimble! The Ignition timing has been increased about 5 degrees more at static, and lighter centrifugal springs brings full advance to another 25 degrees at around 3,500 rpm. It now runs like a little austin mini all the way to 6,000 rpm!
I found the weight of the tank in the had altered the handling capabilities of the Pride, the tail wallowing in the undulations of Ortigas Ext. and the turn-in, which was not good at stock anyway, was awkward. After a search, I found Kayaba Excel G gas shocks for the rear which has produced a really firm ride, although non-LPG prides report that the same gas shock are extremely hard for comfort. I guess the extra weight of the tank balanced the gas shock perfectly.
My economy has suffered a bit from all this performance tuning but I can still get 350-380 kms when I reload, usually at 18% or just before it begins to register 0 on the digital display- so I'm perfectly happy!
I am now mapping-out an installation for my sons 1985 Mercedes 200 gas Type W123, which I plan to install with a stand-alone LPG vapor fuel injection system with Lambda feedback installed. I will start another thread on that when the parts arrive.
As I had expected, LPG autogas has proven better than expected in all its aspects. No exceptions, a real no-brainer right?
