DTI urges vehicle owners to patronize accredited Auto LPG shops
23 June 2008
With the increasing demand for the use of automotive liquefied petroleum gas (Auto-LPG), Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary Angel L. Pelayo is encouraging vehicle owners who want to shift to Auto-LPG to patronize DTI-certified auto-LPG conversion shops.

"To ensure that your car remains safe after conversion to Auto-LPG, make sure that the conversion is done by shops accredited by the DTI's Bureau of Product Standards," Assistant Secretary Pelayo said.

To date, there are 10 Auto-LPG conversion companies in the country who have been issued PS licenses by the Department of Trade and Industry's Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS), namely, Naiadss Corporation, Macro Liquid Petroleum Gas Co., Inc., Gasumi Marketing, Durasales Inc., Lovely Home Inc., Black Prince Communication Inc., Ferrotech Steel Corporation, Greengas Inc., Ambient Energy Enterprises Inc., and Thermoline LPG Conversion Works Inc.

To ensure the safety of consumers, the DOE and the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS), together with other concerned agencies, have developed three sets of mandatory requirements for the use of LPG for motor vehicles. These standards specify the requirements for the material, construction, design, testing and marking of auto LPG steel containers and prescribe the rules and requirements for the design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance and fueling of LPG equipment, used either wholly or in part for the fueling of internal-combustion engines.

Companies found to be violating these mandatory requirements face fines ranging from five hundred pesos (P500.00) up to three hundred thousand pesos (P300,000.00).

"The DTI is actively pursuing the certification of more auto-LPG conversion shops to cater to the increasing demand for auto conversion," Assistant Secretary Pelayo stressed.

She also urged the public to report complaints regarding unlicensed auto-LPG conversion shops to the DTI Direct Hotline 751-3330, which is open from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm. (end)
