I'll go for Elantra GLS, a bit of bias of course because I own one. The Car of the Year Award is just a bonus and supported my belief that I made the right choice.

Why Altis for the safe side? What do you mean of this??

Well, I guess Retz was talking about the common notion that a Toyota is always the safest pick, what with the solid reputation of reliability, economy and all that.

But I will reiterate my opinion that the Elantra is the best choice, especially after being supported by the picky North American motoring scene. Sure it may not be the sportiest one out there but well roundedness is the thing that we are looking for.

Toss up between the Cruze and the Elantra IMO. Cruze & Elantra have great reviews so far both here and abroad.

Let the Civic rest, it had its reign.

It's just a toss up between the Cruze and the Elantra. And picking from those two is really hard.

Having had a Civic SiR in 00 and an 06 2.0 FD, 09 Jazz. I can say that my Hondas was less reliable than the Toyota's I had. 09 Jazz is ok so far but it's only at 15tkms presently. The transmission of my SiR had to be repaired after 40tkms (factor in that I was 20 and drove fast, but had the Corolla when I was younger so...), my A/T FD had a lot of minor (but expensive) parts already replaced and it is still at 35tkms at present. I remember the 95 Corolla GLi I had from 95-00 never gave me those problems. But the Hondas was more fun to drive.

The Elantra has a lot of potential it is a very nice car with an excellent engine. Reliability though, too early to tell. Remember the reviews you see on youtube almost never discuss reliability simply because there is no data for new models to base it on. The new gen Elantra gets rave reviews as a young model, I would wait 2 more years.

Someone suggested the Focus, they have transmission problems, I remember having my vehicle tinted, I asked the owner if the Focus is ok, he told me he gets a lot of transmission repair jobs for the Focus. Right there and then a lady went in, her Focus was on the highway and could not get in gear.

Now about Chevy, there is a reason they are struggling and I would not invest hundreds of thousands on a car built by a struggling company. It looks absolutely gorgeous, yes. But I am not always convinced a good looking car is a viable choice. Someone suggested the Grand Livina, it's a good choice imo but the problem with the Livina is that it is so cramped inside, even on the drivers sit, I'm big so I know cramped when I'm in one. But a lean-medium built person will have no problems.

    Reliability: Altis
Porma: FD or Elantra (this two will have higher maintenance cost in the long run)

My Honda Civic FD's engine support and tensioner gave up after 50k kms. Had to pay a lot to fix them. But other than that, there were no any other problems that it gave me.

That's pretty early for the engine support, but not a very expensive part to replace, you are luckier. hehehe

I'll go with the Civic. Just wait for the new version of the Civic this 2012. And the news it will be made in Japan. Hooray!

New Civic is not good. Honda executives are even admitting it and they will be releasing the next gen Civic earlier by one year.
