so far wla nman saming problem during cold starts. still one click start... well i guess were lucky we got a good unit.

When given the test drive on a short strip in Filinvest, Alabang, I felt that the VVTi wasn't cutting it, whereas the D-4D was more responsive. As with all else, not considering its recent reliability issues, D-4D is the contender to get.

Ps: the sales agent who "escorted" both Innova(s) that I drove, declared that "kung arangkada, panalo talaga ang vvti sa D-4D".

If that's the case, why even bother marketing the D-4D, if they claim that the VVTi engine has more torque?

It's generally accepted that diesels are more expensive to maintain but consume less fuel. When the price of diesel started to go up such that it's already less than 2 pesos cheaper than gasoline, drivers were furious. My cousin thought of buying a gasoline Innova instead of a diesel because of this. And considering the demand for better quality diesel for today's high-tech engines like D4-D and CRD-i, I personally believe the VVTi version should be less of a headache.

for a car its kind (AUV) i'd pick a diesel... ang diesel andar kung andar...

i just wonder if this newbie d4d can beat the all-time veteran 4d56 when it comes to reliability?

Round 1: Engine Performance
According to a test conducted by c! Magazine, the diesel took 16.70 seconds to reach the 100km/h mark while it took the gas variant 15.41 seconds. If the difference does not mean much to you, and if the Innova is going to be used more as a utility vehicle, the torque would come in handy.

Round 3: Maintenance Cost
Diesel engines can withstand more beating compared to gasoline engines but if the D4D "horror stories" show consistency among the majority of the diesel variants, VVT-i gets my vote.

Round 4: Engine Quality
Too early to tell but if the D4D "horror stories" show consistency among the majority of the diesel variants, VVT-i gets my vote.

Round 5 Resale value
I'm inclined to give my nod to the diesel variant, but again, if the D4D "horror stories" show consistency among the majority of the diesel variants, expect a drop in the D4D's resale value.

VVTi vs. D4D is just like gas vs. diesel.
If you want less noise, less vibration, less smelly fumes, quick accelerations then get a VVTi. It's already a proven engine.
If you always haul many people, wants a good fuel economy vehicle, but doesn't mind the fumes, noise & a little vibration. Then get the D4D. Althought with the D4D woes. I think D4D still have to prove itself.

Sa sitwasyon na ito gusti ko VVTi kesa D4D. Iwas muna talaga ako sa CRDi dahil sa quality talaga ng diesel dito sa atin. Kaya hanggang ngayon wala pa rin akong kaplano-planong bumili ng CRDi-based vehicle. Pag naayos na lahat, I will get a gas variant na (pero hindi Innova ha hehehehe). Halos parehas na rin kasi ang presyo ng diesel sa gas.
