    Good day Tsikoteers!

I have my FX for almost three years now and so far, though it may not be that too economical in terms of fuel consumption, I'm very satisfied with the service it gave me. It is indeed very easy to maintain, parts are cheap and easy to find. Heck, I can even buy a tire for only 2000 Pesos. For almost three years of ownership, it never gave me any headaches, maybe because I "baby" her too much , and I also dont miss any PM sched. I use it for family use only.

When I was a kid, I fantasize owning a box-type Pajero. Until now everytime I see a well maintained boxtype Pajero, I really crave! Astig na astig talaga ako sa kanya.

Here's the thing, medyo nagdadalawang isip lang ako since it may project a bigger PM cost due to the diesel engine (especially its already an old one). Here are my cons:
    1. Consumes more oil
    2. Tires costs too much
    3. ASBU magnet
    3. A/C perhaps is not sufficient (front only)
    4. Parts are also (i think) more expensive than on an FX
    Here are my Pros:
    1. More fuel efficient, plus diesel costs lower than gasoline
    2. Higher ride height, higher flood wading capability
    3. More comfortable (i think) in rough roads than in an FX
    4. Looks more "Astig" and upscale than the FX

I would appreciate your insight if its OK to let go of my FX in exchange of the old Pajero.

    Thank you!

We also have an fx and fuel efficient naman siya, yes sobrang dali talaga niya ayusin at mura talaga parts. For pajero box type sir kung pangarap mo talaga siya, go for it basta willing ka sir mag spend ng mas malaki.

For me, masyado matakaw ang 7K engine.

You're comparing a SUV over an AUV.

Ang engine is 4D56. Parts are very abundant, so madali lang ang maintenance nito. Tsaka di porke diesel, mas mataas maintenance cost compared sa gas engine. For me, pareho lang yan dalawa. Nasa pag-aalaga nalang yan ng may-ari. Dowside of the box type is it is very old unless makakita ka ng very well maintained.

If I were you, I'll keep the FX and buy not the box type Pajero, but the Gen 2 Pajero.

    Sir Ciz, Sir Testament,

Thank you for your replies! My priority actually on considering the Pajero is its ride height and of course the upscale value as what Sir Testament said as SUV category. I owned a Delica before and its ride height and 4WD capabilities are indeed a delight in going thru unexpected terrains and plowing thru floods. Comfort is so far good as its A/C is cool enough for my family, plus the seats are comfy too, having captain seats of course. But the maintenance seems a bit higher compared to my FX, like the timing belt (which the FX doesnt have), needs more oil (6.5 li) as compared to my FX's 3.8 li, and the tire cost (2k+ for the FX and 4k+ for the mitsu). Anyway, these difference in maintenance cost seemed flushes away everytime i'm behind the wheel of a higher car (in which case the Pajero). The confidence that I think I will have is great, knowing that my family would be safer in such a car. These thoughts is what makes it difficult to decide.

Sir Testament, Gen2 Pajero is indeed the best choice, but price is very far from the FX, which of course would tend a higher cash out. How I wish I have the enough resources already!

Thank you for your comments / advices!

Go for it! Iba talaga pakiramdan pag nagkatotoo dream mo.

    Goodluck!

We are using Castrol Fully Synthetic Oil at Biodiesel from Small players gas company.

If you really want the paj, go for it. But set aside a budget for repairs. Pero pagnaayos naman and mapalitan ang kailangan palitan matagal naman cguro bago masira ulit basta buy orig or good replacement parts ang ipalit.

Iba pa rin ang feeling ng magdrive ng suv especially a good conditioned old school. Good hunting!

Hmmmm, running cost ng local Gen 2 is around 300-350k nalang. If you can wait a bit more TS, paniguradong makukuha mo ang pinapangarap mong Gen 2.
