IMHO you should take a closer look at individual units you're considering. As people have said before, most components are sourced from specialist manufacturers. Comparing within each car segment (compact, midsize, etc) fit and finish and the overall quality of the body you can attribute to the brand.
The only complaints I can say about the 2 Korean cars we've had (Grand Starex & Tucson) is the sheet metal tends to rust earlier, and the rubber bushes etc underneath get destroyed earlier. GS had a noisy sliding door and the Tucson had to have its a/t checked by the dealer. Not sure if that can be classified under build quality. Otherwise, great overall value.

Henry Ford Goes to Heaven
Henry Ford dies and goes to Heaven.
At the gate, St Peter tells Henry Ford: "Well, you've been such a good
guy, invented the car, changed the world. As a reward you can hang out
with anybody in Heaven of your choice."
So Henry Ford thinks about it and says: "I would like to hang out with God himself?"
So St Peter takes him directly to God's thrown and Henry Ford starts by
saying: "God, I don't want to sound biased, but you have some major
design flaws in Your invention, the Woman.
1. There's too much front end protrusion
2. It chatters at high speeds
3. The rear end wobbles too much
4. The intake is too close to the exhaust."
"HMMMM" says God and goes over to the Celestial Super Computer, types in a few key strokes, and waits for the results. He then turns to Henry Ford and says; "It may be that My invention is flawed, but according to the stellar computer more men are riding My invention then your's".Last edited by Syuryuken; February 25th, 2015 at 01:29 PM.

February 25th, 2015 10:24 PM #87korean? why not japanese?[/QUOTE]
Nagsawa lang seguro ako sa Japanese. I am actually a toyota loyalest
We had 2 toyota's before, the oldest is year 2006/ suv, latest was yr.2011/sedan and just sold them lately. Lahat casa maintained.
I't all started when we bought our first korean car Soul, because my wife finds it cute.
After driving it, my perception towards korean cars has changed maybe because of european inspired design and engineering. Lately we just added 2 more members S and S.
Cheers

February 25th, 2015 11:52 PM #88Actually masarap talaga idrive ang hyundai-kia kaysa toyota. Simula sa small cars pa lang like eon, i10 at accent compared sa wigo at vios. Pero may trade off. Mas malakas sa gas.
But for diesel like tucson, sta fe or starex, perfect....

This is just me. I bought my Korean car because of the reputation it holds on it's diesel engines. I am not the least bit disappointed by it. But if I were to buy a gasoline car, I would most likely choose a Japanese one. Why? Because Korean cars do not hold any significant edge over their Japanese counterparts when it comes to Gasoline cars.
