The Montero Sport is derived from a Strada which is a pickup truck so is the Fortuner from the Hi-Lux which is also a pickup truck. So I say the MS and Fort are the ones TH to be SUV's but in reality underneath they are just pick up trucks sold as SUV that caters to 3rd world countries with 3rd world prices. Again its just me...

    Hi, sorry for intruding again...

I just noticed other Santa Fe threads here... It seems that all the threads with Santa Fe are flaming hot with arguments! I don’t know why but one thing I observed is that the owners are somehow sensitive if some people criticized their preferred SUV...

Santa Fe Owners, please cool down. We know that your SUVs have good characteristics. We are just sharing our opinions in these threads...

As for my side, the reason why I posted my previous message here is because my family owns car rentals and we also have some Korean vehicles... One thing I observed about Korean vehicles is that they are somewhat unreliable compared to Japanese ones... I just want to share my family experienced with Korean Vehicles.

We have 3 Hyundai Starex with year model 2003 and two 2005. Current odo readings for all of them are already above 100K km. expensive check up was done when we overhaul their engines...

Our Starex 2002 had undergone engine overhaul during the 90T+ km check up
Our Starex 2005, one of them was overhaul during 120T+ km check up and the other one 160T+

Take note that all of them are properly maintained... They follow regular check up.

We also have some Adventure and Revo units which already run 150+ behind their belts without overhauling their engines... As far as I can remember we didn’t experience any Japanese made vehicles in our possession that had been overhauled below 150T+ km...

Again Santa Fe owners, I’m just sharing... Peace to all of you!

    *bino rocha,

you're right in a sense that a jap car is better than a korean. we have 3 hyundai crdi's. and the only cars that I'm dreaming of owning right now is either the new Honda CRV or the new Honda Jazz. so what's better for me than a Hyundai, HOnda! imagine cars that can be service every 6 months with regular oil. san ka pa?

pero kung toyota or mitsubishi lang, well, they're bottom of my list. after korean cars, mas trip ko ang subaru lalo na yun bago forester.

yun toyota fortuner kasi medyo may kalabuan din nag-design nun, tinaas nila ng husto yun pwet, tapos yun spare tire accessible sa ilalim. that's so early 2000 design.
    kaya tuloy napagnakaw.

yun ms montero sport, hello. we're now approaching 2010. even lowly priced Hyundai and Honda mini-cars have built-in dash stereo. sila di-suksok pa din.

among the japs, honda lang at par with the trends of the times. and they dont overprice. E10 is relatively cheap nowadays, and it's only Honda who had the moral obligation to inform and to assure the public that all their models are E10-compatible.

kainggit ng buyers ngaun ng Honda. gasoline + cheap maintenance + efficient cars. talagang value for money + quality. the crdi's are more expensive to maintain, yan lang ayaw ko.

nope SF is not recommended on off-roading.

Fort and MS can do off-roading. but like any other vehicle na sinabak mo sa off-road na hindi malaman kung gano kalaking bato tumama sa pang-ilalim. you're bound to get some damage underneath, minor or major gastos pa din.

it's so old school thinking to buy a car today on the basis of off-roading. sa panahon ngaun na gusto ng mga pulitiko sementuhin lahat ng daan sa Pilipinas to get kickbacks. ba't ka pa mag-iisip ng off-roading.

so the question is, will you use your newly purchased Fort or MS to go up to Mt. Pinatubo or hire those 4x4's for rent? kung 3,500 lang rent dun nako no

The Fort might have some off-roading capabilities, but if I really wanna go off-road I will instead get the Ford Everest. Santa Fe buyers didn't buy it to go off road but for use in urban driving. Most Fort buyers actually use the vehicle as urban driver as well, kaso it too bumpy to be a good city slicker. My butt will curse me for buying a Fort and I owe it to my butt muscles to get a unibody crossover rather than a pickup ladder frame.

Why? Does SUV necessarily mean it needs to go off-roading? The market is different now! Many manufacturers are trying to meet market demands. And the market demands for more crossover type SUV's rather than truck based SUV's. In the US, the truck based SUV's are slowly declining and crossovers are the taking market share from the truck based SUV's. That is the trend.

New Montero Sport 4x4, Fortuner 3.0 4x4 or Sta. Fe 4x4.
