* Niky-- the Pathfinder will ride better than the Navarra because of it's IRS as opposed to the solid axle of the Navarra.
I just don't understand why people buy vehicles built on a truck chassis(body on frame) and expect to get a car like ride. If people want a car like ride buy a vehicle built on a car chassis otherwise expect a truck like ride. There is a reason why trucks ride the way they do it's because it was meant to carry and tow heavy loads.

That would be something to look forward to.
The Navarra's only problem, aside from wheel patter (which is understandable in a truck) is the motion of the rear axle... cure that, and it'll be as perfect as a truck can get.

I think you can put the blame of this misconception on the car manufacturers themselves. They're the ones constantly bombarding the car buying public with ads and press releases that their (ladder frame) SUV's ride like (expensive) luxury cars.

It's definitely a better ride but still far from car like, I would liken it to the current model of the Explorer with IRS. I test drove it before getting my Xterra and it was more planted around turns. The wheel hop on the Navarra is probably for the same reason the Xterra hits the bump stops, the leafs are to soft and will flatten out after some time.

The new Explorer is pretty decent, but way too soft for my tastes (I like the slightly firmer ride of the older, still IRS, Explorer). But Explorer brakes, whichever generation, suck balls...

September 19th, 2008 04:14 PM #98we have both the Ford Explorer and the Hyundai Sta. Fe. The Sta Fe rides better. since pickup-based ang Ford Explorer, talagang ramdam mo pa din kahit konting tigas ng pang-ilalim. although many would say, the explorer is like the expedition in ride quality. hindi din, truck-based cars are really harsher to ride, even American gasoline guzzlers.
you really can't have the best of worlds. if you want off-road quality, then buy a tough truck. but the trade off is hindi siya car like comfort in paved roads.
I hated the ride of the 2nd gen strada and vowed never to buy anything pickup again. lalo na pag si-net ko ang 4x4.
I think the Pajero rides better than this new Montero Sport even though they use the same engine. bec. the Pajero is configured to ride like the Expedition but in diesel.
============
the old school type of drivers love the tank of a ride kasi talagang parang iron man ka in wheels. abutan ka ng flashfloods, masiraan isang kapamilya mo and you need to pull him/her, bigla ka maghatid ng bagong kilala ***y girl na tiga-probinsya o tiga-bundok, ready ka like a boy scout.
but for me, nagbabago na tastes ko. even the Sta Fe is too big for me now. i feel that i can compete better in the real world if I drive a Ford Edge or Mazda CX-7. X-wing driving in Manila traffic talaga, puwede sumingit sa maliit/masikip na roads, soft ride, and ultra-aero dynamic looks, mataas pa din ground clearance, and best of all, fuel efficient and maintenance efficient. some say diesel is fuel efficient pero talo ka naman sa maint cost ng diesel. dapat i-weigh mo, lalo na ngaun E10 is just the same price as diesel.

September 21st, 2008 09:58 PM #99the guys in our family love suvs hence the fort and pajero field master in our garage. the FM's getting old and we're planning on trading it up already for the Santa Fe. we were in MOA this afternoon and stopped by the hyundai showroom in Macapagal Avenue after lunch. i always had a crush on the SF ever since it's release. we're going to test a unit by October. problem is when we went back to MOA, we saw a glimpse of the new Montero Sport and now we're all having 2nd thoughts. 3.2L turbocharged diesel engine, bigger space, mivec, very competitive price and a meaner stance. that's competition right there. the only flaw i found in the MS was the Strada like front grille. wish they stuck with a Outlanderish or Pajero BKish front grille. creature comfort wise, the SF is still way ahead of the MS but the above mentioned traits of the MS I think more than compensates for it. now i've monitored the SF thread here at the forums and know about the pro's and cons of the SF. the MS thread on the other hand being the newer model, is an all out debate as of the moment. i guess i'll wait for the dust to settle in that thread first before deciding which one to get.
