well i'm i guy who likes performance better than looks. there is no doubt that the CRV is a great car inside and out, but the forester has a great/huge advantage when it comes to performance against it's competitors. i also liked the foresters huge sunroof, hid head lights, best awd system (only audi can match up against the subaru's awd system).
for the escape, it's not because it looks the same it means that it will perform the same and has the same reliability right? go ahead and drive one then drive the forester, you'll see the difference. plus the escape is a FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily).

March 11th, 2010 07:21 AM #52we got 2 cars that have sunroof mz6 and Explorer EB. la lang parang yun lang pala yun heheh.
in terms of reliability, it will all boil down to how much your are willing to pay for the maintenance of your forester. from the looks of it, since subaru is still considered a rare car here, malamang mapapamahal ka talaga.
ako kasi ayaw ko nagagasta ng malaki sa tsikot, mas gusto ko pa bumili ng ilang sets ng orig adidas gym wear and rubber shoes so that sikat ako sa gym.
i spend 5k every 6 months on my 11 yr. old awd crv for casa pms. now how's that for being reliable hehehe? my santa fe naman i spend 3.9k every 6 months for casa pms.
now that's reliability i can count on, coz i use two philippine road-warrior cars alternately. even though subaru is dubbed as high performance car, i doubt it will be as reliable as using it everyday and the elements.

They will be. Subarus are developed by people who develop rally cars. Call it marketing propaganda (or cheap lies) but it works. Our 6 year old Forester has no problems yet. maintenance is really more expensive than Honda (and definitely more than the Koreans) but that's because, as you said, Subarus are high-performace vehicles.
In terms of reliability, you can't go wrong with any Subaru. Elements and road whatevers are nothing. Go to Alaska and you'll see so many old Subarus. Go to Australia and you'll see so many old Subarus. They're reliable. Very. They're just rare nga lang kaya there's a stigma of terrible-ness to it.
And for the looks, sa tao na yun. no offense meant, but I think the CR-V is one of the ugliest Japanese cars sold here. It's all subjective.

subarus aren't rare at all, they're only rare in the philippines cause bago pa lang sya sa philippines. when you go to the states, alaska, australia, new zealand and some parts of europe. sobra dami ng subaru, and a lot of them prefer the forester over the crv because of the road conditions which the crv or any other competitors of the forester won't be able to take. and regarding the maintenance it's also 5k per pms for the forester. subarus are great cars and they are probably the most reliable japanese cars, but since they're pretty new to philippines a lot of filipinos don't know how great they are, only car enthusiast knows how great the subaru is. subarus attract people who likes performance and push their cars to it's limits and people who needs a reliable car that can go through any road condition like ice, snow, sand, dirt, tarmac, gravel, mud. clearly gen.
like i said the crv is a great car and interior wise, the crv is a bit better. pero the crv for me is a really boring car, yes it will get you from point a to point b, and save you gas and you'll be comfortable in it. that's not me when i drive, i wan't to drive a car that has power and feels manly, and that's the subaru every time i drive it, it puts a smile on my face and it's really tempting to floor the gas pedal because i love to hear the roar of it's boxer engine that you can only hear from subarus. also the subaru doesn't fall that far from the interior of the crv. so if you want a car that can get you from point a to point b and save gas, then get a crv. if you want a fast and fun car that can get you from point a to point b and put a smile on your face then get the forester.

March 13th, 2010 03:49 AM #56when i say the elements, stop and go traffic due to pedestrians, pedicabs, scooters, tricycles, jeepneys and buses and an always congested no room for air setting that is our philippine road system.
subaru's are tuned to go faster. sa tingin ko mapapakamot ang subaru engineers if they realize na ganito pala ang philippine setting stop and go infinity.
the ford explorer is a well-loved american suv. almost every American I met told my dad na it's a great american car. pero grabe ang performance nyan dito sa P'nas, would you believe 3km/liter lang fc namin. naawa nga ako sa makina nya eh. eh wala eh ganun talaga p'nas

*Gen. Miting, reliability is reliability. through traffic and bad road conditions, reliablity is what it is. Subarus are reliable. About the fc, get a Prius if all you do all day is bumper to bumper. Any car will drink fuel in traffic. If you're in the market for a Fozzie, foresterx and I can promise you won't be disappointed. Sure, the build quality may not be as nice and blah blah blah, but like sir foresterx said, do you want to get from A to B or to you want to start from A and be smiling before halfway to B? Traffic isn't a reason against happiness in the car. The aircon is very good. The sound system (IMHO) of Subarus are good. Smiling material.
*foresterx, thanks for expounding. :D

March 14th, 2010 03:17 AM #58the claim of reliability remains to be seen in the philippine market. infant stage pa lang subaru dito. it's too early imho.
if your assumption is that all subaru drivers think and drive alike, baka puwede pa siguro. but I highly doubt that.
