Thanks Larry for starting this thread.
I was also in the same dilemna. I chose the Lancer. I thought about the Avanza J and Innova J , but both are too bare for my tastes.
Chose the lancer over the city due to space issues. I am 6"0 and my knees were hitting the dash of the city. Elbow room is another issue.
With the lancer, I can sit comfortably plus good enough space for 3 at the back.
To each his own talaga. Different priorities. When choosing a car, you have to think about what you want and NOT what others would want.
Congrats on the new ride.

September 30th, 2008 10:44 PM #72Wow dami na pala developments ng thread na to!
Nga pla, I already got my Honda 1.3MT na City. So far so good! Very satisfied at maraming add ons ( siguro last na to kasi lalabas na ang bagong city next year ).
Anyway your call yan, tama sila lahat, ikaw nakaka-alam kung ano gusto mo. I'm sure you'll do the right thing ( medyo mahal na investment yan eh kaya dapat maayos, hehehe ).

November 18th, 2008 05:06 AM #74I'll go with the lancer. not because i own one but, well, here:
my brother owns a city 1.5, and i own a lancer 1.6, both manuals. the former is four and the latter is three years old. i've driven his city and he has driven my lancer several times already, and we've come to the same conclusion as to the engine, ride comfort and looks are concerned.
1. engine: hands down, even if 100 cc less, the city owned the lancer in terms of engine performace. the city accelerates harder, but not necessarily better, as the clutch system of the city is very sensitive. you have to step a bit on the gas on stop to go.
2. comfort: definitely, lancer. the car has more room than the city, both in front an at the back seats. and the shock absorbing ability of the lancer is just better than that of the city's.
3. looks: well, my lancer has front chins, side skirts, rear chins, spoiler and muffler cutter (all OEM) so maybe that's the reason why it is better looking than the city. the clincer is: i haven't really found a lancer with that same look. well, there are only a few lancers out there to begin with. this is one good reason why you should buy a lancer.
as for maintenance, both cars haven't had any single repair / replacement. we've taken good care of our cars and/or maybe, both must be really durable and dependable. as one member told here, love your car and it will love you back.
for me, i'd go for the LANCER.
but if you're still going for the city, please choose the 1.5 over the 1.3 version. the former has 16 valves while the latter only has 12. that's just not acceptable especially in this day and age.
hope to be of help. good luck!

Yes, we got the Lancer already. Ok naman so far, except the engine is a bit noisy? even after the 1000 kms change oil (fully synthetic). Check nyo ung threads sa mitsu here sa tsikot 2009 Lancer GLX/GLS. Dami na din post dun.
Un lang ayaw ko, ung noise. Pero all is good. May airbag pa.

One feature they should incorporate in EVs is speed limiting based on the keyfob you hand over to...
