The thing is, if saving money is really on your mind, you should get the 1.1 Getz.
It should have nearly the same fuel consumption as the diesel Getz, and given that diesel prices are rising a bit more than gas prices... typically, diesel of ten or twenty years ago was 60-70% the cost of gas, now it's closer to 80%, it'd take around ten to twenty years of driving the diesel at 10,000 kms a year, to recoup the price difference from the 1.1 gas engine.
And that'd vary if you're buying on installment, as the diesel will have the biggest installments and the most added to its price by interest.
But, if you're picking between the 1.4 and the 1.5 CRDi, go ahead and spend the extra money on the diesel unit, as it's a quicker and more desirable car and should keep its resale value much better than the 1.4. And the difference in maintenance costs between a 1.4 and a 1.5, never mind which is diesel and which is gas, should be negligible.Last edited by niky; August 29th, 2006 at 02:32 PM.

best reason to buy a getz crdi or any sedan crdi is if you're planning to buy another crdi van or suv in the future.
in this world of costly fuel, maintenance, and repairs, this is just playing smart imho. who knows, maybe after expired warranty, you'll just have one mechanic to service a common engine.
just my 2 cents ... we have 2 hyundai crdi's already. in the future, if we have another chance we'll buy another crdi vehicle regardless if it's a ford, toyota, nissan, kia or hyundai.
hybrids cars are not the next step. it will be mainstream 10-15 years from now siguro. the next step is crdi gasoline-like engines. efficient, powerful and responsive.
but of course, the honda civic and jazz are the exception. gusto ko talaga ng civic, maporma na pinakamatipid pa sa consumption.Last edited by oldblue; August 29th, 2006 at 03:39 PM.

add ko na din, diesel is the best way to go in the future. kahit na tumaas ang diesel sa europe and the states vs. gasoline. that wont happen here. and we have politics and the might class d&e to thank for it.
our government will just subsidize diesel continuously at the expense of gasoline car owners. why? it's easier to correct it on the executive level than to convert all PUV buses and jeepneys - major source of income of most pinoys nowadays. even commuters would prefer diesel puv's. if gasoline, baka 15 petot na kagad minimum fare hehehe
go with the flow lang ...
