Yup tama, mag cr-v ka na lang sir. Gas consumption lang problem mo sa kanya, tapos since 10 years old na sya set aside ka na rin ng cash for repairs.

On a side note: any car poorly maintained and poorly rebuilt will break easily.

in short, yes. for normal everyday paved road driving (with the occasional offroad) the CRV would be the better car.

i've owned and used for a number of years both cars na pinagpipilian mo... and while i loved my pajero, talaga naman nagugupo ako sa gastos (bought mine 2nd hand with loose compression). medyo maarte ako sa maintenance at ayoko ng tumitirik sa daan, pero sa pajero, nakatikim ako nito many times. probably with the age of the car na din kaya ganun.

if gagamitin mo sa probinsya na bahain or marami maalikabok na daan or putikan, the best ang pajero. mawawasak ang CRV sa mga ganitong lugar.

i've had no issues sa crv ko nun (bought new). meron pala, naging makalampag na sya sa 4th year of ownership ko.

eto mga naranasan ko sa paje ko nun:

    1. mahal ng goma. kung bumile ako nun 2 pcs lang, kasi di kaya ng 4.
    2. blowby ng makina medyo grabe na. 1st overhaul palpak, bumgay after 6 months blow by nanaman. had to redo the thing.
    3. broken clutch, clutch mechanism. lusot clutch ko sa qc circle caused a massive traffic jam. kakahiya.
    4. overheat, mga 3 times.
    5. kalampag.
    6. aircon pinalakasan.
    7. faulty 4wd switch.
    8. many more..

sa crv ko eto naranasan ko:

    1. kalampag
    2. pundido headlights sa 3rd year.

yung gas consumption issue ng crv marami fix jan. if you use the correct sparkplug, keep the air filters clean and your tyres properly inflated, matipid din sya for its weight and engine size (2.0 ito, hindi ito kasing tipid ng corolla syempre).

sir voltscastillo it seems na niloko ka lang ng shop na pinag pagawaan mo ng pajero. renzo is right you should post the name of the shop as so other tsikoteers wont fooled by that shop.

In fairness to the pajero, it hasn't given me any headaches like that. just the tires they're really expensive. but hey thats how much I love my truck... hehehe

Depends on what you are going for, depends also how many kids would you like? If 2 kids the CRV is just fine, but with 3 up get the Pajero, just get the unit which is maintained properly, and get the manual transmission.

shadetree mechanic lang yung tumira nun dude... wala na sya ngayon. last time i visited his place was '03, papa adjust ko sana yung 2nd overhaul nya sa pajero ko, pero bakante na yung shop nya. turned out, may niloko din sya na pulis pala sa lugar na yun (malapit sa chinese gen), papatayin daw sya so tumakas na sa bicol or something. served him right, that asshole...

kaya these days, i never recommend yung freelance mechanics sa tabi tabi. we're at their mercy kasi. buti kung matagal nyo na kilala at totally trusted talaga. eh my experience sa paje (hindi lang sa dun sa overhaul, medyo eng-eng pa kasi ako sa car maintenance nun eh kaya laki ng tiwala ko dun sa mga nagmamarunong) ay 70% ng mekaniko na free lance ay kumakanta ng happy days are here again pag nakita nila magpapa ayos ka ng pajero.

    BTT:

to the threadstarter... dude it's your money. you can choose the paje or the crv, both are good cars naman basta well maintained at hindi singaw ang makina.

pero think economics here. good condition pajero 1996s still cost upwards of 400K (may 650 pa nga eh, dun sa kotse network sm fairview... muntik nako matawa eh). good condition, newer crvs cost 350-400. sa edad pa lang its assumed na mas marami ka ipapa ayos sa paje.

don't get me wrong though. the pajero used to be my dream car. when i bought it i thought, wow, dad ko hindi nakabili nito, pero ako nakabili... wehehehe

my point is that, kung hindi ka naman paje enthusiast or wala ka need for such a go-anywhere brutal vehicle, mag CRV ka na lang.

CRV 2001 or Pajero 1996?
