Hey Ghosthunter, thanks for the response, I appreciate it.

I would be using the car to go to work everyday. I am in the boundary of Dasmarinas and Imus Cavite. From my house to the highway, it will take me 4-5minutes riding a jeep/tricycle (so you can just imagine that I'm near the highway). I work in Makati Buendia! So i plan to use the car for work. My neighbor told me (who also works in Makati and has a second hand honda civic), that she spent 250 pesos on gas (back and forth) everyday to get to work.

If i buy an SUV, will i be spending more than 250pesos per day? Is the consumption really that bad? I don't have plans of really putting a lot of people in my car, it's just going to be my MOM, DAD and my brother. That's it. And i plan to use it to go to work, and maybe to go out of town from time to time.

I really like an SUV, i really like big cars (my dream vehicle).

Do you think i should just stick into buying a brand new sedan car? Instead of buying a second hand SUV?

    Thanks.

If I were to buy a used car, I wouldn't buy a car older than 2 years, which means it has to be an 09 model or newer. Sadly with 700k budget it would be hard to find a larger SUV (Everest, Montero, Altera, Fortuner and etc.) for that price. There is too much risk in buying older used cars, since majority of the major parts start to deteriorate at this time, which could end up costing you much more to maintain. If you want a bigger car and has roughly a 700k budget you can also try considering getting a pick-up truck. A 2 year old top of the line 4x2 or a brand new base model should be in the 700k range. Though they are diesel powered vehicles, they are not as fuel efficient as those smaller sedans. Our older Gen 1 everest averages around 5.5 km/L while my newer Ranger averages 10.5 km/L.

Ummm....ok.. how about the mistubishi strada pickup? I see that i can buy a cheaper version of it. do you think its good?

(im surprised that your gen 1 everest is that bad in consuming oil, do you even get to use it at all, coz you'll be wasting money there)

The Gen 1 Everest and Ranger are known to be gas guzzlers, I had a Gen 1 Ranger too before and consumption is also similar around 5.5 to 6 km/L. The new CRDi models are defininetly much more fuel efficient. In the case of the Everest and Ranger, the CRDi version I think only came out 2 to 3 years ago.

I do agree with the other's if you are planning to loan it from the Bank, it's best to get brand new, interest is almost double for used cars and there is a shorte limit for loan duration. The duration is usually based on the age of the car.

i had three Ford Ranger's with WLT turbo's and i always had 8km/l edsa traffic consumption and 12km/l highway driving consumption. im even always at hataw mode.

if 5 yrs to pay buy brand new, dont ever think about buying 2nd hand sa ganong term, isipin mo nalang palaos na yung oto o pag minalas ka baka defective or flooded pa makuha mo tapos 5 years mo pa babayaran. Baka after 5 years bulok na at ang baba na ng value nya its not worth it i tell you. Take note iba ang interest rate ng 2nd hand vehicle mas mataas... baka 2 na nabili mo sa interest nyan.

*TS, relatively ok pa naman mga '05-'06 na vehicles. of course depende sa owner. SUV ka na lang but if you'll go for a second hand car, I suggest bayaran mo ng buo and hinde na i-loan sa bank. lugi ka kung second hand tapos i loan mo pa.

    * TS, seraach ka sa internet sa ayosdito at suit for 2nd hans SUV. Since yan talaga gusto mo, I suggest you get a diesel not a gas SUV. Puwede din AUV para malaki rin, Crosswind na mga 3-4 years old pasok sa budget mo IMO. Tipid yan sa diesel.

Also, yung suggestion ni rattrapante puwede din, a 4x2 pick-up na crdi. Pasok yan sa 700k. Mga example below, puwede mo pa tawaran. YungXtrail good buy IMO. May budget ka pa for repairs if ever but ang baba ng odo eh, hopefully hindi na-ondoy. Better bring a mechanic in your visits sir.

Wow! Thanks sa mga reply! So do you guys really think that its ok to buy a 2005 or 2006 suv? I saw that some are selling at at 600k the most. I would probably pay 250k out of it and then will loan the remaining.

of course! but with any purchases you need to check it properly. I just don't agree in the mode of payment.

*shadow, eh hindi kase ako makakabili ng suv na brand new kahit iloan ko pa eh, di na kaya ng budget ko. max of 12500 a month for 5 years lang kaya ko.

kung 5 years to pay pala then mag brand new ka na lang. kahit sedan ok na yan. it's just not worth your money to pay for 5 years mga second hand cars.

Unless you find a really good deal, get first a brand new, efficient sedan and go for your dream SUV when you have the budget for it (whether brand new or second hand). The interest on financing a used vehicle is higher and there are limitations to the age. With second hand also, expect to put out additional cash for repairs and servicing.

Wala namang problema sa 04-08 vehicles coz most of them aren't abused that much naman. just bring your TRUSTED mechanic with you to check the car & if he gives you the go signal everything should be okay.

kung 2 yrs old car ang bibilhin, id rather get the brand new.

A Strada is actually somewhat practical. Maintenance costs will still be more than those of your typical small car (thanks to the common rail diesel), but fuel economy will be reasonable, and the amount of space and utility you get for your money for the base model is very, very good.

If you're considering an SUV versus a brand new subcompact, you have to bear in mind that even if a secondhand SUV costs the same as a brand new subcompact... it will still cost as much to maintain as a brand new SUV. SUV parts are fricking expensive. And this is coming from a CR-V owner. Fuel economy in a prevous generation CR-V is about half that of your typical subcompact, though the newer (3rd gen) 2.0 CR-Vs are very fuel efficient for their size.

Still not as cheap to maintain as a subcompact, but pretty good running costs for a big gasoline car.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

First of all, welcome to tsikot!

My guess is that you're also from Golden City, Imus?

Anyways, I used to travel from that area to Makati (Makati Ave), that's around 70kms (back & forth), for five years using 3 vehicles: 05 Ford Ranger M/T, Gen2 Pajero A/T (Subic) and 98 Toyota Corolla XL.

Based on my experience , the cheapest daily use was the Corolla at 12km/ltr (gas), next was the Ranger at 10km/ltr & the most expensive was the Gen1 Pajero at 8km/ltr.

If you will use it mainly for daily commute, I suggest a brand new small sedan. Nothing beats the experience of owning a brand new one, with its "brand-new" smell, warranty, and other freebies.

    HTH!

    tama si sir shadow..

kung 5 years to pay na secondhand, wag nalang.. mukhang budget meal kalang... magbabayad ka ng monthly for five years then marami pa papagawa kasi second hand... hindi biro yung 5 years napakatagal nun for me...

    mag jazz kanalang gen 1.5...

ako naka gen 1 crv.. talo talaga sa gass... 9 km/l lang ako sa highway... 6-7 lang sa city..

wag magmadali sa pag bili, makakabili kadin ng SUV someday brandnew pa....
