You could also, mind you... turn turtle in a Vios and burn to death.
Here in the Philippines, if you're driving anything short of an armored 7-series, you are at risk of dying on the road. You can increase your survival chances by buying cars which have better crash ratings, like the Jazz (5-star) or that are bigger, like a Fortuner... but those aren't a sure way to prevent death, as there have been accidents where Jazz and Fortuner passengers have died in crashes. (although going up against a runaway bus going at breakneck speed is a sure death warrant for anybody).
At 600k, you don't really have choices for anything "safer".

Just be aware of the height of the Avanza's air intake and computer box, so you'll know how high a flood it can cross and how high a flood it can survive. And being a gasoline vehicle with an EFI engine, it's not quite as "flood-proof" as an old-school diesel.
Then you would have to simulate hitting the cement-mixer's armature... simulate hitting a bicycle... simulate hitting a backhoe... simulate hitting a five-foot long section of steel pipe jutting out of a wall...
Modern crash testing done by the NHTSA and Euro-NCAP already simulate a barrier test and an offset barrier test, which is similar enough to hitting a large vehicle's bumper that it's largely identical. Yes, some trucks here have high bumpers, but that's against the law in Western countries, so they don't simulate that. Take it up with the government.
They also simulate side impact... and soon.. rear impact.
And they simulate a pole impact test, which is just like hitting an MMDA concrete barrier or a Meralco pole. Those are the two that really matter. All other impacts are variations on the theme. More freak impacts are impossible to prepare for... not unless you want them to mandate Level Four armor plating for all motor vehicles on the road.Last edited by niky; January 16th, 2010 at 08:37 AM.
