Medyo nag alangan kasi ako sa avanza after that big SCTex accident late last year; i think all the fatalities were riding on the avanza that got smashed up real bad....

... although i hasten to add, i don't know the whole story -- for all we know the avanza got a direct hit from the 16-wheeler -- talagang walang laban yan. it's just that out of all the cars that were involved ung avanza ang pinakagrabe.

Early last month I was driving down from Antipolo towards Ortigas Ext when I saw an accident involving an Avanza, Corolla and a jeepney. From the looks of the vehicles, the jeepney was going down while the Avanza & Corolla was going uphill. The Avanza was pretty much crushed and torn from the accident with the jeepney. The Avanza was pushed back against the corolla. By-standers said the jeepney lost its brakes and couldn't make the sharp turn, hitting the Avanza nearly at the driver door and opening it like a tin can. Of the four people in the Avanza, two were badly hurt and were taken to a hospital.

IMHO.
Thank you for the responses. I noticed you own an Avanza. If ever I decide to get the J version, if requested, can the casa put automatic door locks and power windows on it?

Coincidentally, my brother's friend visited and was driving a recently purchased Vios. I tried the same scenario and the same "static" came out from the car's speakers.

I forwarded my observations to the Toyota representative in charge and also posted my observations in the tsikot.com forum.
    Thank you for this finding.

The alarm automatically locks the doors a few seconds after the ignition is turned on. The auto lock will not work if one or more doors are open. This is the feature of the alam that was installed.

While the Avanza's ground clearance gives it an advantage, its road-biased tires won't get you too far if the road is slippery.
My budget is up to 600,000 for now. I'd rather save the rest for a new house or condo. Most of the climbing places here in the Philippines (close to Manila) don't require much off road drive. I prefer to leave the car then hike up to the climbing spot. That was why I considered the Vios since they are at the same price range plus it would be good to bring you to your daily work.

How much did you spent for the above additions from the casa? Nice set-up.

What does GOA mean? Forgive my ignorance.
