Curious lang, between the Civic and Mz3, why do you see the Civic as more reliable?

The FD had aircon and clutch issues, while the 1st and 2nd gen Mz3 had none. The FB is also Thai-built, while the new Mz3 is CBU Japan.

toss up between mazda 3 and altis. i'll give altis slight edge over M3 because it's the 1.5 version.

    Altis 1.6V
Toyota Altis | Choose your Vehicle | Toyota Philippines
    kerb weight: 1,265 kg
    power: 122bhp at 6,000rpm
    torque: 154Nm at 5,200rpm

Mazda 3 1.5 sedan (sourced from brochure)
    kerb weight: 1,254 kg
    power: 112hp at 6,000rpm
    torque: 144Nm at 3,500rpm

3 is down 11kg, down 10hp and down 10Nm vs the Altis (coincidence? ). Max torque comes lower on the rev range for the 3 though.

    Figures from Honda brochure:

    Honda Civic FB 1.8S AT
    Curb weight: 1,228 kg
    power: 141ps at 6,500rpm
    torque: 177Nm at 4,300rpm

The Civic FB is lighter than the Altis 1.6G and Mazda3 1.5V. The 2.0L Civic weight is just a few kg heavier (1272) than the Altis 1.6G. However, you get more output and torque with the Civic over the same rpm band.

Just curious... isn't this just half the story since the SkyActiv engine has a 13:1 compression ratio, which theoretically can give you more mileage per drop of fuel? :D

Numbers don't tell the whole story I agree. It's like comparing a 36-24-34 manang vs a slightly curvier hayop animal :naughty2:

110hp/142Nm hauling that much weight, not a good idea for fuel efficiency. I don't know what other similar scenarios we can think of but more like a late 90s era midsize car (1200-1300kg) powered by an engine from a subcompact car.

Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know, the SkyActiv engine's 13.0:1 compression ratio means it burns less fuel compared lower compression vehicles so it does not really affect the performance, only the fuel economy.
